i love my slazenger v500 & v600!!! just wanted to know what bat u use

When I was 14, I was down at my local Myer checking out the bats in the sports section. Grey-Nichols twin-scoops were about $170, the latest Duncan Fernley about $150, and the stand-out most expensive bat was the County Supercat Legend signed by Clive Lloyd at $220. I always preferred Grey-Nic's (still do), but $220 sort of made the Supercat a stand out.

Shame I only had $50. I was having a look at what I could afford and brands like Buffalo Sport and Grasshopper were predominant in my calculations. Then I came across some real lame bat that had a price tag of a mere $8.99. A glanced across at the register and spied a mid-40's female sales assistant. I reasoned that it was unlikely that she knew the different between a cricket bat and dildo, yet alone two different cricket bats. I swapped the prices and took the $220 Supercat up to the counter.

Top of the range County Supercat Legend: $8.99
Change back from the fitty: $41.01
Straight driving my mate over the fence that weekend: priceless.

I have gone back to my old gray nicholls now.I was using a gray nicholls monster up until a couple of weeks ago and the middle was the best I have used and my entire club agreed.Unfortunately the reason for this great middle was the weight of it.It was just to heavy for me so I have gone back to my old faithful.

Don't play anymore, but still have a Kookaburra Sword in the cupboard.

Wanna sell it ??

I originally used a Stuart Surridge in a harrow size as a kid which was a nice bat to start my playing career with.

When I got a bit older my father bought me a Gunn & Moore Maestro, I think it was the first year of that models release. I used it on Saturday and it has lost nothing of its ability, just an old bat that keeps going.

Pre-season I was convinced that I needed a lighter bat in order to get into position quicker against the faster bowlers (I am an old coot you know). I went out to Kingsgrove Sports and weighed all of theMaxi bats and picked up a nice Gunn & Moore Maxi which is 2lb 8oz, at least 2oz's lighter than any of the other Maxi bats there.

Now bearing in mind that I hadn't had a new bat for 25 years it was a shock to find out it cost $350. Then I noticed that they are all bleached willow which made them look anaemic plus they have a protective sleeve and a toe guard and come factory knocked in. How times have changed.

I use the new bat against the sharpish guy on Saturday but had the square leg umpire holding onto my old bat and used that for the medium pacer/spinners. My preference is for the old bat (I have made 4 tons with it) but the new one does have its merits.

My club bought one of those Slazenger V800's and it sure is a beautifully weighted thing. It impressed one of the guys so much he went out and bought the last one they had and in his first innings with got 78 so they aren't a bad otion either.

I'm looking for one of those old Jumbo bats from the 80's, reckon they could be quite effective on an small ground. Anyone got one lying around ??

The other bat that I tried a few times in the old days was one of the original Gray Nicholls Scoop bats. Seemed to feel like you always hit it in the middle with them.

Well ive got a few........
Gray Nic Longbow Pro 2lb 10
Gray Nic Gladius Pro 2lb 9
Gray Nic Rapier Pro 2lb 6
Gray Nic Rapier 5 Star 2lb 9

Also i snapped up a few freebies in the UK last year....

Slaz V800 ultimate, 2lb 10 Absolute piece of crap dont waste your money.

Salix Praestantia 2lb 9 My all time favourite, Perfectly balanced and the whole face is a sweet spot.

Newbery Mjolnir 2lb 9 Beautiful bat much like like the old Millichamp and Hall Original but the middle isnt as gutsy.

Overall my favourite is the Salix but im getting used to my new Rapier Pro and taking a liking to it. I reckon for value for money though you cant past Gray Nics. Even if you cant afford the top of the range one their so called cheaper bats are still beautiful bats in my experience with them.
I guess in all i have about 25 bats but the bats listed are the ones in my bag and the only ones i use these days!

Look forward to hearing others thoughts on bats!!!

Hah thats a classic! If I was younger I'd try that out too (just hope Myers still sell those $8.99 bats!)

I have always used a Kookaburra bat. I always watched Dean Jones with his trusty Kookaburra and since I got my best score with it, I'll never change it for quids!

Tut tut naughty boy:D

Mention of Duncan Fearnley made me wonder what happened to them?when I was a kid nearly every top batsman in the world used one.

Richards, Botham, Gooch, Crowe, Border now can't remember the last time I saw a Test player use one.

You hardly see County around anymore - I think Warnie's the only player using them.

SS (Stuart Suuridge)? They're pretty much gone too. I think Mark Taylor was the last person I can remember using one.

SP (St Peters)? Haven't seen one for a good 25 years. Tony Greg used to use one. Well that probably explains it

Symmonds, Newbury. A lot of bats aren't around anymore.

Other - Mine is a custom made Bradbury, bloody beautiful blade:D
i had one of those, was a crap bat. maybe i got a dud (or is it just me?) i reckon i paid about a dollar a run for the thing.

I bought a Gray-Nicolls Rapier Pro last season, which has been pretty good. It took the place of my old faithfull Kookaburra Gold Crown, which I got given by Ricky Ponting after he snapped the handle... I got the handle replaced and it was basically brand new.

In Australia I think County are marketed as Hunts - some legal reason.

Newbery have started wider distribution in Australia now - but you won't find them in general sports shops.

I use a Fielke, hand crafted in Gawler, South Australia.
But to be honest, I could use Bradman's bat and not make more runs than I have been lately. 0,2,2.

I find the old countys to be very good bats. The custom made bats see, to always have good reports. The only name brand I trust is Gray Nicholls the rest tend to be one dud,one good.Bit of a lottery.
