Aside from a couple of years where he actually did play extremely well, I don't think may people rate his achievements for Australia in test cricket.

Slats says that the hit to the head in the nets has hurt Watson's confidence, the only way things can get worse for him is he trips while walking to the crease and knocks his stumps over.

or just do it legally. give him some extra overs in a few games, next thing you known Watson breaks down again & another 8 Months of Rehab.
When he is fit again & some how automatically gets selected again,just repeat the process.

Watson and Marsh positions need to be questioned, at least Watson can can bowl, Marsh well the quicker he goes the better

Don't know you do anything with him. A timely 50 and if he takes a crucial wicket or 2/bowls tightly and holds up an end he earns his keep for the SCG. Fact his Watson will never be the superstar matchwinner (in Test Matches) he was proclaimed to be nor will we ever see the Border Medal form again. He is very much a match by match selection and a handy cricketer to have and the second a young all rounder/no 3 comes along he will be leap frogged (much the same way Siddle has been/will be). A serviceable player at Test level and has probably done enough for Sydney and maybe an Ashes touring party if he does well there. That is all.
He is a garbage player and has been for years. Throw a rock at the top dozen bats in the Shield, and you'll hit a player who is capable of meeting if not surpassing his contributions at number 3.
Unfortunately the selectors are convinced that his dozen overs of medium pace and 'experience' is vital to the team, so he will never be dropped regardless of how long his abysmal performances continue.

His batting is mediocre to good, and he's barely worth a spot in the top 6, let alone at 3.
Unfortunately for him, he's playing in the wrong era. When Warne/MacGill and Gilly were in the team, he would've balanced things perfectly with the 2 spinners and a gun keeper/bat.

We haven't prodcued a top quality all rounder since Keith Miller, but since Flintoff killed us in England a few years back, Australia has been obsessed with having a fifth bowler.
Watson is a moderately performed Test cricketer who isn't going to get any better.
To me his is the Jarrad Waite of cricket. You keep waiting for him to get better, but that ship sailed six or seven years ago.

It's not as if we have a surfeit of ready made replacements for Watto. Which may have a lot to do with the decent go he's getting at the selection table.
Not sure he's ready just yet to be honest. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the side after the ashes next year though. Will be a player.
