i have no idea but maybe they make sure the club doesnt end up with a lot of samey players on the list. Like if you have 8 ruckmen and the coach wants to draft another one, the list manager is all like 'dude we have enough'

You'd assume a list manager would be working to make sure you have the right balance of players at the right ages so they can get a number of good quality 23-28 year olds who have all played 100+ games at the same time which is a general requirement for winning a flag.

A list manager would give advice on what sorts of players you'd need to be getting rid of and what sort of players would need to be recruited.

This is what I am hearing they do.

But then when you think about it that is part of what the Coaching Panel, Recruitment Manager amd Football (Operations) Manager should be doing as part of their jobs?

list managers deal in player's wages...coaches and recruiting peoiple dont worry about those thing

Would they not also deal with contracts, negotiations, welfare etc?

Correct.

They have a lot to do with interviewing parents, coaches, schools etc etc of potential recruits.

In some ways they are almost a salesman of the club for potential recruits and trade targets as well as an investigator.

They also report to the board, coach and football manager on their progress through the year rather than the head recruiter.

They have far too many responsibilities to list them here and no the coaches couldn't handle their area.
