Opinion What needs to change?

If we're to win a Premiership this year there needs to be a few games in September that we need to finish with a bigger score than our opposition.

Unlike yesterday.

So what needs to change between now and then? What's the plan?

Key players to return from injury? If so, who?
Tinker with the tactics? If so, what?
Key players to find form? If so, who?
Do we need to blood any more players this year? Who needs to come in?

What needs to change?

We need to stop clogging our forward line and start kicking to leads. It just looks really unbalanced too me and we are bombing too contests too much hoping our big boys will come out on top.

I'll start with who needs to come in.

Johnson (if possible) we really need his run from half back. He could come in for Young or Clarke if he takes Young's place.

Didak: Look, to be honest, I'd prefer him to stay out. I don't know why, but if he was to come back in he really needs to start firing at VFL level. I hope this isn't a change but I feel Elliott or Seedsman will go out for him.

Sinclair: we need his run and pressure. I'd like to see Moons stay in, however it's unlikely. So Mooney out for Sinclair.

Wellingham: we don't NEED him, though he'd be nice to have in. Probably Seeds out for him.

Other possible inclusions could be: Gault (he's a good contested mark, has the height of a ruck but plays like a midfielder.) Rounds (tearing it up in the VFL) and Clarke, though I'd prefer others to be in ahead of him. Possibly Paine too, though we don't need ANOTHER key forward right now. Possiblyjosh Thomas too.

Tactical changes: when we kick in, dont do those dinky over the top 15 meter kicks to the corridor. It just gets turned over too often. Just pump it long towards the wing.

Smalls should be front and center at marking contests. We are allowing the opposition to get it down to their goals too quickly.

Talls should go for a mark on the lead. Nit try to outmuscle 2+ opponents.

Defenders should play infront, or at least on their goalside. Not behind. This mainly applies to the key backs in browny and Reid.

Players to find form;

Reid, Brown, sidebottom (he has dropped off a bit in the last few weeks), Harry O, Dawes, Cloke, Tarrant. Toovey

I also think we can't function with the 3 talls and goldy forward line. We need more smalls to crumb.

Firstly, personnel changes:
In: Wellingham, Didak, Johnson, Sinclair
Out: Mooney, Seedsman, Young, Elliott (unlucky)

I would like to see the team line up like this come September:
B: Toovey Brown O'Brien
HB: Shaw Reid Maxwell
C: Thomas Swan Wellingham
HF: Fasolo Dawes Sidebottom
F: Tarrant Cloke Goldsack
Foll: Jolly Pendlebury Beams
Inter: Didak Johnson Blair
Sub: Sinclair

We need these players to find form:
Cloke Dawes Reid Brown Toovey

We need to put more pressure on the ball carrier, all four losses thus far have been caused by our lack of pressure that became our trademark in 2010-11.

This^^
that would be a hard team to beat come September i would not write off anything this year. If Krakouer were to come back this year who would he take out?

Tough to say, maybe Sinclair, or if Nathan Brown doesn't improve his form then maybe Tarrant goes back and Krakouer plays forward.

I would not be against Krak coming back if he plays a solid 3-4 weeks in the VFL, maybe he might play as a sub.

I think that Nathan Brown being dropped and Tarrant going back to defence is an absolute certainty.

Agreed. If he continues to get dominated as he has done recently that would be the ideal change and would enhance our forward pressure with Sinclair starting.

Interesting i would love to see us line up in the finals with Krak as a sub! Do you have any info on Mcaffers future at the club? i would really hate to see him go as i loved his 2010 finals series

We need to go shorter and quicker IMO. Our best performance for the year was against the Crows when we went in with 4 players 193cm plus (Keeffe, Cloke, Dawes and Jolly) and we ran all over the top of them. It's no coincidence that the 4 games we've lost this year were against teams that conversely ran us off our legs.

This.

We aren't playing to the strengths of the individuals within that forward line. Until this changes, we will see the same things weekly.

We will still win more often than not but it will always be left for too few to carry the load and against the challengers we will be left wanting.

I would also like to see more Sharrod Wellingham midfield minutes. Whilst Beams and Sidebottom and Blair have added a different dimension and hardness to our midfield, Wellingham has tools they don't that we need to start using. He has been asked to play more as a forward but that is not his strength. He is much more damaging and effective as a stoppage midfield player who has shown he can kick clean break away goals from congestion.

His output as forward doesn't add any value to the team. He is hard at the ball and man, can win contested ball and importantly can spread.

Bucks needs to start using the strengths of each individual within the team or we will just be making up the numbers.

I agree 100% with this, I think Nathan Brown may be due for a spell and Tarrant should go back into defence.

One of him or Goldsack has to go to defence we just aren't dangerous enough up forward. I'd lean towards Goldsack personally but I certainly wouldn't complain if it was Taz.

Whatever it is though we need to put some change in place and soon in order to bed it down in time for September because what we're doing now won't cut the mustard against the Swans and Hawks....

Agree with everything except the Wellingham comment which made me spat my ham & cheese roll all over the computer screen. It would be like a Hawthorn supporter saying they dont need need Lewis.

Brown is struggling i have no problem with Tarrant going back. I don't think we need to panic, every side is having their moments this year which could be seen as non premiership worthy. Hawthorn got belted by Richmond! But to win it on the day we need to be manic in our attack on the ball and man, something we weren't yesterday or v Carlton. I understand you can't be up every week but it shows if your off only 5% you can get belted.

I agree, at this stage the premiership is just a raffle for mine

I get what you mean, though what im saying is the team won't win or lose on a contribution from Wellers, similar to Toovey. We are virtually te same team with or without him.

Structurally we need to go with a smaller forward line, but we also need far better ball delivery coming through it that's where Didak could be pivotal.

Dawes needs to play less minutes on the ground to keep him from fatiguing out and therefore not contributing in either position.

So clearly Taz and Reid at the back posts, and the rest sorts it self out.

Our other concern is that we're neither defending forward or back at kick ins and we're getting killed out of there. Also, we've stopped threatening through the middle so when we turn it over on the boundary line we're getting killed on the switch because 3/4 of the ground is open.

All fixable.
