Played BP/HB in primary school.
CHB in High School. 1 half in midfield (tagging Brad Green). 32 touches and 4 goals later.....
CHB/HBF in u/16s
BP/HBF/Bench/Stands in u/18s
big break.

FP/CHF/CHB in reserves
CHF reserves, BP/FP/Bench in seniors.

Funny thing is I'm only 6'1, and most guys I played on where 10cm or more taller. As a kid I was just quick with a huge leap....doing both knees took care of that, and I relied on reading the play to be competitive. (That and the fact that CHF on a midget sized ground is basically an excuse to go iron out some opposition midfielders).

60/40 split between CHB and CHF.

Was better at CHB. Very attacking. Make the spoils but also get plenty of footy going forward.

Was Ok at CHF but not a big goal kicker. More the hard leading, present an option to the guys coming from the backline type.

Enjoyed both spots though and had the occassional run in the ruck.

Played on the wing most of the time, occassionally on the ball, but we had so many good midfielders.

Was good playing on the ball with Simon Taylor as our ruckman, who'd win every single tap. We knew he'd go onto to big things.

Haven't played tor 7 years though, stopped after grade 12.

When I was really young - under 10's and my dad use to coach us - I was always best on the ground - literally - got knocked out so many times it wasn't funny.

In my teens made rep sides playing Full Forward - goal kicking machine I was - mind you if it was straight in front I always seemed to miss, still remember some miracle goals from the point post and a motlop type goal from the pocket.

In my twenties I bulked up and wasn't the best trainer so it was always full back, back pocket, occassionly ruck (even though I am only 6 foot). But every time I got moved forward I would kick bags of goals but the coach liked to play full forward so I always was used in defence. Gave it away after 4 years of half seasons due to injuries.

Wanting to play again now at 39 in a super rules comp but don't have the time or money to get laser correction surgery - so it is assistant coach of my sons under 8 team for me!

Played in the centre for Mt Evelyn & Seville played seniors at 15 & trained at Carlton at 17 used to play against Fraser Brown when he played for Lilydale hated him & always ended up punching on soft as a baby's arse was Fraser.

Played a lot at CHF then FB.
I think as you get on in years and you play in the 2's the oldest player usually plays FB.
But I'm enjoying coaching my daughters U/13's netball side they won 2 games last year, best win's of my life.

I was ok as a Junior, but as i got lazier and lazier i became crapper and crapper. I would get little of the ball, kick an odd goal in the pocket and fight ALOT. I got kicked out of a junior league for fighting in under 12's. =:B

Then i moved to new zealand where i got into rugby and played fly half for my school. I was a better rugby player because i was always an ok kick of the footy so my field kicking and tackling were good. Didn't have the love of the game that i have for footy though.

Came back and decided to go play with a few of my mates in the Amateurs lower grades...

First touch of the footy in about 7 years.... team mate puts a high floater towards me and i am ahead of my man running in for a diving-like mark... Ball hits me on the finger tip... fractures the end joint.. need surgery and a steel screw that stays in my finger for life. I am also a part time musician who plays guitar... Cant play guitar for 4 months so lose about $4000 worth of gigs...

FIRST TOUCH OF THE GOD DAMN FOOTY IN SEVEN YEARS!!!!!

Up to Under 18's I used to play two games in a row. One in my age group and one the age group above. In mine I played the old Ruck Rover position and on the wing in the older group. They loved me in the older group because the umps favoured me (still don't know why) maybe because they knew I was young, and I got 2 or 3 goals a game sometimes from frees.

No wonder I copped my Goldspink Karma. :D

btw Isn't it funny when you look back. I won a few B&F's standing on my head and thought I would just end up playing at the Hawks. What a moron, I couldn't even get a game at Box Hill. Still remember going down there to train about 6 or 7 years ago (the same day Mitch first turned up) and seriously shitting myself. I will never forget Mitch that day because he was all alone like me and comparing myself to him made me realise I was the Zaphod Beeblebrox of footy and that surviving the Total Perspective Vortex meant nothing on a footy field ...

You idiot! You should have used the Infinite Improbability Drive.

And for me: emergency (reserves).

I like to run around and try to get a kick. Onball, wing, flanks I spend most of my time. Very rarely get anywhere near the goals unfortunately!

I think I have played in every position.. Mostly played as the enforcer as my older brothers had laid the ground work and my family rep allowed me mostly to scare people. The only time I didn't play the enforcer was when I played for the Pines. Most Mothers and Grand Mothers were the enforcers there.:D

Cheers

the one season of jr. footy i played i was a BP/HBF, and i was very good mind you, however, it is just too difficult as a 14 year old to get respect and a fair go in a jr. footy team so hung up the boots (I believe i had something to do with the club playing finals that season - the last 3 yrs of their campaign were 10th, 11th, 5th

I like to play center Half Back, i enjoy playing on a big strong forward as i like to zone off and switch the ball as much i can, you can really direct play from the half back line
