fair calls DB

he will be a massive loss. Tell us all what your greatest memories of PV are...

For me it has to be him equalising against Spurs at Old Trafford in the 2001 FA Cup Semi-Final ...

and also his matchwinning penalty in this years FA Cup final

Great moment

Worst moment - his numerous red cards and wayward ball to one Ryann Giggs - need i say more..

Im sad to see him go

Fav moment was the goal against the mancs in the first double year. What a goal. Worst moment was his flop at Anfield last year.

why sell him now for half of what real offered last year ??? must be something we dont know
and who will replace him,he will want to be good to keep the fans happy

Was that the case where he tried to get Hamann booked? He'll fit in well in Italy with that sort of style :p

You won't see his 97 and 01 form, take the blinkers off.
And why wont we? Cause he left the arse? He hasnt gone to some fly buy night club. Ive got no blinkers on, it looks like youve put them on pretty quickly though.

He will be a quality player for you lot no doubt. However i believe his best form is behind him. His form this year was really poor and in some games shocking. However as the season went on he did improve.

IMO He was going stale at Arsenal,(as anyone would after nine years) this move may well see him regain his best form and 29 is not over the hill just yet.

Apparently the reason Arsene is so interested in Baptista is that he used to be a central midfielder and that they think he will fit in alongside G.Silva as a midfielder who can go forward, with Reyes as the link man.
So Arsenals midfield should be

Hleb/Ljungberg Baptista G.Silva Pires/V.Persie

His knees being shot is one reason.
Interesting how all these injuries etc come out after he is gone, in fact let me re-phrase that, FUNNY how all these things come out now. You stated shot knees is one reason, so must be more reasons, let us know seeing you must have been his personal physio.

Nice of you to make an arse of yourself, but PV4 has had a serious of knee injuries over the last two and a half seasons which has seen him miss LOADS of playing time. Most people at Arsenal are well aware that his knees are buggered.

Perhaps you should do a little reading around, you might notice this sentence cropping up constantly: "if there is mileage left in Vieira" and realise why it is highly unlikely he won't replicate his 1997/98 or his 2000/01-02 form, and then realise why, at least in my opinion, why he dumped one of his best friends, and somebody he sees as his son, so easily after fighting off Real Madrid for years.

Done plenty of reading re Vieira and havent seen those phrases at all. Can you point out the articles where you saw those phrases please. Would be a very intersting read. I hope its not from the arsenal forum though.

Last one I remember reading was this one (which is where I copied that quote from), there's more circulating but I haven't read any in the last two or so days that are available.

I thought everyone knew of the extent of PV4's knee injuries. He missed the first six weeks of last season with a knee injury, in 03/04 he missed loads of time with various knee injuries after virtually killing himself trying to drag a sinking ship across the line in 02/03 - his knees are no better than Petit's when we sold him, comes with the trade, heh.

Then again at Juventus he may get over them, train a little harder and take care of himself now that his first team spot isn't utterly secure. -shrug-

Thanks for that DB, was an interesting read. Im hoping that because he isnt the main focal point as he was at Arsenal, that when his body or knees start to play up he will be rested. But who knows what he will do, its a completely different league, slower might suit him and those knee's of his.

Actually what year(s) did he play up to 50 games in a season? He has done it a couple of times and once again correct me if wrong.

02/03 would definitely be one year. He would've done 50 games a season in his earlier years at the club when he still played League Cup games frequently.

I'm telling you now, one of the biggest myths is tha Vieira had a good 2001/2002 season, that was the first year of his decline.

He was out for long parts of that season & we didn't miss him, but he played in all the big games that went wrong, obviously mainy in Europe.

His peak was 98-2001.

He's been on the slippery slope ever since, it hasn't been a rapd decline just a gradual waning of his powers.

Should have sold him in 2002 when both his value & the market were at their peak.

I wold have been happy to sell him in 2003 & 2004, can't help wondering whether it was really worth it now for £13m, but overall I'm still happy that he's gone.

We've still got to pick up the pieces of him as club captain telling Ashley Cole to ask for more money.

Au revoir & never return.

Arsenal are just doing wat they have done for years - get rid if good players who are at their peak, and who they can get a good deal for. Don't wait until their form decliens with age to trade them - trade them at their peak.

Wenger is the master of value for money.

Sylvain Wiltord?
Franny Jeffers?
Richard Wright?
Matthew Upson?
Gio van Bronckhorst?
Edu?
Oleg Luzhny?
Moritz Volz?

He's been living off the Vieira purchase and Anelka sale for quite awhile now.
