Okay well im in year 12 this year. I am not doing Uni. I want to have a career in Policing. But i dont think im ready to go into it next year, also they like life experience.

So im looking to find what jobs i could do. Ive got the Defence Force Gap Year, maybe work in the mines (longshot) on my mind. Maybe work overseas for a few years. TBH i am stessing about life after school. I have a part time job now, but i dont want to work their next year. Anyone here have any options, or anything? What did you guys do?

Most people in your situation travel after year 12; good way to get life experience

I just took a year off and just worked on our family farm and just did some travel before i started to think about my next move

and if can't afford to travel, want to join the Police, then the Defence Force Gap Year sounds like a plan.

They tend to keep their nose clean in the military, don't they? ;)

I thought working would be a better way to get life experience, if you plan to work more than you travel throughout your life.

I don't, but am working full time now (graduated last year) and planning on just seeing where the wind takes me at the end of the year.

Working is also a worthwhile option. Travelling need not be overseas btw, you don't need that much money to go travelling here in Aus and there's plenty to see

After i finished high school i took a year off and did nothing just stayed at home and play cod all day. you get so bored so easily, this year im doing my apprenticeship and working 60 hours a week, massive change considering i was doing nothing and now im working my ass off and saving money i would've never seen before. If you don't want to start your career in the police force maybe find and easy morning -lunchtime job with reasonable pay and start saving. all the best brah :thumbsu:

Travel!

Work overseas. You can go through certain programs that can organise you a job in the USA, Canada, Europe or basically anywhere before you leave Australia.

If you'd be comfortable travelling alone then go for it. If not, find a friend.
I left school and walked in to a 9-5 office role which was perfect for me. I've enjoyed it but after only 2 years I want to get out and have experiences and travel. And I am doing exactly that come December. I could have had good career prospects in this job but I don't want to waste my youth sitting in an office. It sounds like you're not in a rush to grow up, which IMO is a good mind set.

There will always be study and work back home whenever you decide to grow up.

I'm in the same situation. Been out of school for the year and have no idea what to do. Would love to get into the Federal Police but really have no idea on how to go about it.

A massive inferiority complex is as good a place as any start with.
