I saw someone mention something about Melbourne getting hold of NM's #3 (on McKay's departure) & adding that to Freo's 1st pick they hold. So #3 & #6 would be a starting point I'd imagine.

The only way I would consider giving up Reid is to get Curtin and another top 5 pick so this would work for me. Curtin & McKercher would be an amazing outcome imo.

I’d still prefer Reid tbh but I could understand if others were happy with the trade.


Not going to happen though. Zero chance the AFL hand North both Band 1 and access to Sanders.

They weren’t even the worst performed club this year. It would sure as hell open the door for WC to request assistance next year if another bottom two finish occurs.

Do also have the gut feel that the AFL will try to push their way in and get involved behind the scenes. There’ll be all sort of pressure from the media and broadcasters not to lose the best Victorian prospect in years, and money talks unfortunately.

2+3 would be more than enough but I still hope we tell them to stick it.

I still prefer 2x top ten picks one of them needs to be the top three pick to land one of Curtin/ McKercher.

Which leaves just North and Hawthorn. Melbourne would need to include pick 15 to make it worth dropping out of that top echelon of players.

They will want both clubs to get back on track and competitive as quickly as possible. The draft is their primary mechanism to achieve this.

Picks 2 & 3 for Reid now is MUCH more preferable for all concerned than another Jason Horne-Francis scenario developing.

Why would the AFL care who goes where?

It’s less about who goes where than the AFL will want both clubs to receive TWO very early first round picks without ever having to use the dirty words “priority pick”.

The deal I mentioned is the best way of achieving that, whilst satisfying both parties.
