Apologies if this ain't original.

I wonder whether Carlton wasn’t overly hurt by the draft bans they received for the salary cap breaches.

Had they not been stripped of all those picks in 2002/2003 IMHO they would’ve been too good in 2005 - 2007 to finish as low on the ladder as they did to have the picks to land Marc Murphy, KPF Josh Kennedy, Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer and #3 at the ND in 2007. With Kennedy and #3 used to acquire Chris Judd.

Thus there is no world in which the Blues have Goddard & Wells and the player taken (or traded for) with the #5 ND selection in 2003 and the early 2003 PSD selection … AND Chris Judd, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer.

In a nutshell - Carlton was kept crappier for longer which ultimately made them better.
I find this is a similar story at Tigerland when drafting Tambling over Franklin.

Lance would’ve kept us at just a high enough level of competitiveness through 2005-2009 that we would’ve missed Cotchin, Martin and Rance, thus almost certainly denying us the 2017-2020 dynasty.

It was by far the best drafting error Richmond have ever made.

Ideally I'd like to see SOO and International rules rotated

Every second year you have a an Origin match up between any two of Vic--SA--WA

Every other year you have an International Rules Series

Obviously Victoria has a lot more talent at their disposal but I think the actual major reasons for the Vics being split at u18 level is to give more lads the chance at exposure at that level because the talent pool is so big in Victoria

But at senior level it's more cyclical as to where the best players are from relatively, although obviously through weight of numbers Victoria are going to be able to put out the best side out of anyone a lot more often, it's not always guaranteed. Various times in the past it has been proven that the best 18 that either WA or SA has been better than the best 18 Vic could provide...again as I said it's not often but it has happened. Heck as little as 9-10 years ago I would've backed WA to beat Vic in Perth when they would have been able to put out a team which would have included the peak versions of....Buddy Franklin, Josh Kennedy, Alex Rance, Nic Nat, McGovern, Fyfe, Priddis (maybe Eddie Betts also) etc

WA development is in a massive hole.
Under funded, lacking effort, and not aiming to produce AFL players.

It’s the inspiration for north trading Whitlock for a 1st rounder one year after failing to tank for Harley Reid. The Premiership cup will be at Arden street throughout the 2030s.

If no rule changes, 90 percent of premierships in the next 10 years will go to either big Vic clubs or Qld and NSW sides.

It is a clear two tier comp.
I predict that whomsoever wins the premiership in the next 10 years, you will have a theory ready about how it’s not Fremantle’s fault they are perpetually disappointing.

Its pretty easy to be dismissive about these things when your team just finished 8th and got to play a prelim at home.

SOO result will have as much interest as Freo v Indigenous All Stars last year.

People will watch coz starved for footy but who cares about result.

The only way SOO has a care factor is if its all states over a few weeks like the u18s carnival.

Not happening.

Also yes the stand rule is GARBAGE

Have said it before.

Would prefer the competition was 16 teams. Tas could be 17th maybe.

Saints + Norf don't deserve to exist anymore. Utter failures on and off the field. Turn them into the Tas team.

Gee that’s a bit mean Andyy. People probably said the same about Richmond in the 90’s and 2000’s. Are you not old enough to remember our wilderness years?

I am talking about all small vic teams and SA and WA teams. Never mentioned Fremantle
So small Vic teams are also victims of “East-coast bias”. I think I’m starting to understand. It’s more than just an excuse for Freo’s mediocrity.

Finals at home are a huge advantage, aren’t they?

There are obvious advantages to eastern states teams AND Freo have underperformed in their own right. Both things can be true.

Haha. Who said anything about East coast bias
I dno. Maybe you’ve posted about it in another thread somewhere…

Funny how things evolve. Just two years ago it was Victorian teams who enjoyed those advantages while interstate teams were being left behind… but now apparently it’s the whole east coast. I wonder what changed?

Freo have underperformed to a pathological degree, and while that’s still going on I’d be encouraging your fans to keep the “over-east” finger-pointing to a minimum. It’s flat out embarrassing to read Dockers fans bringing up the advantage of “home finals” after what happened this September.

Queensland teams starting to benefit from the ridiculous academy concessions they’ve been afforded. Another four top-20 picks + Petracca for Gold Coast off the back of making a semi-final is farcical. Don’t be surprised if we see a QLD dynasty until the 2030’s.

I agree we should’ve beaten Gold Coast. We were crap for 3 quarters and still only lost by a point. I don’t think Longmuir has copped enough heat for repeatedly failing to get the group playing at a high-intensity from the start of games.

That doesn’t change the fact that it’s a lop-sided competition and it extends beyond Freo. 1 premiership combined for the four WA/SA teams in the past 20 years, and it was a 5 point win off the back of a fluky Dom Sheed goal. How many more years of this continuing before you concede that there is a clear disadvantage?

Every one of those teams has been minor premier and made the GF at least once in the last 20 years. Plenty of teams haven’t had as much opportunity.

Gold Coast have just made their first finals series and you’re ready to strip their funding.

So you think Gold Coast, coming off the back of a semi final, receiving four first round picks + Petracca + Ugle-Hagan (who is still a very good player if he can get his attitude right) in exchange for Flanders (overrated IMO) and a few role players is perfectly fair? LOL.

I shouldn’t be surprised but it’s hilarious the lengths you lot will go to defending a blatantly rorted league.

You lost to GC in Perth in their first ever final. You then spend the summer going on about how GC get unfair advantages? Please, it’s simply too pathetic.

Everyone knows the academies are unfair. Brisbane are odds on to secure Luke Hodge’s son as an academy pick next year. But it takes mental gymnastics of cirque-du-soleil proportions to connect it with the Vicbias conspiracy against Fremantle.

You’re preaching to the wrong choir. I’m acutely aware of how disappointing the GC loss was and much of the past decade has been for my club. You seem to be conflating me pointing out the disadvantages as me saying my club is without fault.

The bolded says you agree with me so I’m not sure what else you’re arguing here. You seem determined to make this a Freo thing but last time I checked West Coast, Adelaide and Port Adelaide are part of that collective. When 19 of the last 20 premierships have been won by eastern states clubs, and that trend looks to continue with how the rugby state sides have been kissed on the dick, that’s not a conspiracy, that’s a simple observation that the league is favoured in one direction. The same league that had an inquiry in the 2000’s when a few interstate sides won a few premierships in a row now has their eyes closed when two of the three biggest footballing states have only had one premiership in two decades.

But there’s no point arguing with somebody who supports a club who benefits from this because you will continue to dismiss it.
