Opinion What was the most hostile Victorian suburban ground in the old days?

not only did people bring their own booze, I've heard stories from my dad that some folks would throw full cans of booze.. makes me glad I grew up in the 90s lol

How pissed off do you have to be to waste a full can? God these days i nearly take out extra home and contents insurance when i buy a box

I would suggest all suburban grounds were brutal for Aboriginals

Victoria Park and Windy Hill were the only grounds I copped any violence at. I think both times Jimmy Krakouer belted someone on field too.

Can’t remember if or was the MCG or VFL Park, but it must have been a big match as there was a traffic stop getting out of the ground. Remember it was grass area and some people had their own BBQ with them on the wait for the que to flow again…

But I remember very well that stuck in my 11 or 12 year old mind the fight between two young blokes in the parking lot. One was getting heavily beat up and had blood trickling down his arms. Everyone just watched inside their cars until they could drive away little further…

Would be interesting to know the hostility of grounds in the VFA, SANFL and WAFL days

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there fights between North and Port fans at the 1972 SANFL Grand Final (Adelaide Oval). North defeated Port after also beating them in 71.

Chris McDermott was wacked or nearly wacked with an umbrella by an old Port supporting woman when the ball went over the boundary line in a 1980s Glenelg vs Port match at Glenelg Oval.

Despite being wary of Alberton and Elizabeth Ovals, I never found supporters there to be difficult (although I didn't see Elizabeth pre-Crows).
You'd get some verbal sparring, but it didn't get out of hand.
You would see more drunks at the cricket getting hauled off in a paddy wagon.

Being someone in my 30's and living in WA I'd have no idea about hostile suburban grounds in Victoria, but one memory for me is seeing Darren Milburn lay Stephen Silvagni the f*ck out at Princes Park and the whole Carlton crowd wanted his head and blood. That was pretty crazy.
