1. Nick Riewoldt is first player to take 10+ marks in game 100 times! In career best form and is showing he's still one, if not the best forward in game.

2. Jack Steven has taken game to next level, this is his breakout game and will just build on this.

3. Nathan Wright was supurb before being subbed off.

4. Jimmy Webster was perfect sub. He stood up in final quarter, was kind of thrown to wolves but held his own comfortably.

5. Seb Ross showed pure class again.

6. Ben McEvoy, hands down his best game of his career. 20 disposals, 10 marks and 8 tackles is incredible for ruckman

7. Sean Dempster and Sam Fisher look back to their best. Jimmy Gwilt is so underrated, those three up and about is so vital to our success

8. Dylan Roberton is recruit of the year! How good is this kid!

9. Most impressive it was really the young guys standing up, this was the future. Exciting times ahead.

10. So much else to like, but for now GO SAINTS!!

- Ross' breakout game, showed pure class and composure

- Jack Steven had his best game to date, keeps taking steps toward becoming and A grade midfielder

- Webster had a classy debut, definitely has a golden left boot

- Hickey really stood up in the last quarter, looks extremely mobile for a ruckman

- BIG BOY MCEVOY

- The future looks bright

Ross for rising star, could be on the cards..Easily his best game, & his composure under pressure & ability to get through traffic was eye-catching..

1. Riewoldt is a gun, not much else needs to be said

2. Best game i have seen Steven play

3. Tom Hickey in the side helped Ben McEvoy a lot

4. Future is very bright

5. The win was aweesommeeee!!

6. Nathan Wright will play for the rest of the season if he isn't injured, Looks right at home

7. Ben McEvoy was a complete beast!!

8. Back line looks very good when Fisher is playing loose.

Will stop here could have easily kept on going.

  1. Roo is God that is all
  2. McEvoy the best ruckman from his draft (better then the spud kruzer)
  3. Steven was immence for us
  4. The umpires nearly stole the game from us'
  5. Wright looks like a ready made player (joel selwood like minus the ducking)
  6. Hickey and McEvoy will be the rucks sorted for us
  7. Stanley next year must be played foward
  8. The future is looking brighter
  9. Winning feels bloody good
  10. The scum are our bitches

Can't ignore Hickey's game, he's going to be a ripper with another 4-5 kgs & some experience..!

i thought hickey really stood up, especially in the 4th. had a knock on effect and really made mcevoy play out of his skin

theres something about mcevoy he just seems to play so much better when hickey is in his rear vision mirror

McEvoy is an absolute gun, just does something immense whenever we're in trouble (bump on Henderson in the last minute or so saved a goal scoring opportunity). Without a shade of doubt he would make a great captain.

Few were worried before the game about our lack of midfield runners, and they were right, the engine room died by the looks of it, guys like Ross were nowhere to be seen in Q4 (no slight on him). Again the past lack of blooding is biting us big time, but they'll all be players once they get the pre-seasons under their belt.

jimmy webster had a good game for a first gamer, but i'm not sure you could say that he held his own comfortably. he hung on for dear life. needs another game though, like we did with murdoch/saunders
He slid in pretty well though considering the match really hotted up when he came on. Looked really composed and relaxed. Should start next week if Wright is injured/rested.

Mcevoy kicked ass! Loved that dive in defense in the last Q to save a potential goal.

Riewoldt in career best form

Steven playing his best game for the saints

Milnes attempted run around on the 50m arc, I lol'd

Tackling pressure especially last 3 or so minutes but very good for 90% of the game excluding that 10 minute patch in the last Q

'Team' effort was very solid

Effort from younger blokes again, very good, especially Hickey.

Was happy with our attack tonight. Noticeably more aggressive going forward but we need to be cleaner which will be a long work in progress.

Stanley. He's a spud in general and a super spud in defense. Thank god for Macca filling the hole. Worse version of Gilbert.

Wasn't fond of the team switching off after having a nice lead. Then the short pass crap that followed. No reason to do that and that needs to be addressed. Could quite clearly have cost us the game.

Umpiring. Will we ever get the best of it? The Siposs in the back in front of goal not paid? Ray running into an open goal but Saad is made to take his shot from 50. Countless frees not paid our way. So many examples tonight. Biggest one of all is the frees in the opposition scoring range. Every week, same shit.

Wow, wouldn't go that far

It doesn't take one pre-season to become a gun defender, Please... Surely you are taking the piss?

Not at all. Even when he had the ball running out of defense (with a player right on him) he wouldn't use his non preferred foot which is just basic skills resulting in an OOB and that's not even mentioning his defensive work which is terrible.

Look at it another way. We have a good defense. Fisher, Dempster and Roberton all AA material yet we still need someone to drop back and we know why that is. Even the coach doesn't have confidence in him but he's stubborn.

Lets not turn this into a Stanley thread and derail this topic.

Stanley a spud. What . Don't think so . The deck is still being shuffled . Siposs is clearly better in the forward line ad maybe it will be the same for Stanley but he is more than serviceable down back at the moment. Some new players will come in at the end of the year and the deck will be shuffled again . But the future is bright look who was out there tonight .

We will never amount to much if we go to sleep like we did in the last qtr. Don't give me any rubbish about young players and fatigue, Carlton was so down on rotations that we should have overran them not staggered to the line.

Carlton cheating the salary cap again, Razor must be on their books.

Otherwise liked the game for 3 qtrs. We were faster, harder, better. Steven, Roo and Maca the stars of the show.

The Good
-Hickeys behind the back control of the ball.
-Steven taking a game out of Lennys book.
-BigMacs 5 contested marks were inspiring.
-Saads defensive plays on Walker and Scotland.
-Wright. Best 1 kick game I have seen. Mind you that kick was a burning pass to Roo for a goal.

The Bad
-Milera still doesn't know how to chase someone who has the ball (learning from Milne?? 1 tackle each).
-Umpires again!

Milera is one those guys that's stuck between VFL & AFL level I think. Doesn't seem have any defensive side to his game.

Thought Saad was better this week, gotta back him in now.

adding another Bad:
-Brian Taylor banging on about the Jimmy Webster in the back call. Does he have a personal vendetta against StKilda?
Seems to always barrack against the Saints.

Yeah agree. Saad to stay. Would've had a kick up the bum this week I think. Good that he responded.

milera is 25 now, isnt he?

he might be a transition player for us, like maister. long term not in our plans, but will fill that void, stay competitive and play his role whilst the kids develop

he has something to atleast work with. i think he is slowly getting better
