Whats the problem?

Whats all this I'm hearing that we don't know if we can fit N.Stevens in the salary cap.

We got rid of ALLAN - MURPHY - ECCLES - MERRINGTON - PLUNKETT - FREEBORN - BEAUMONT - MCKERNAN - MATTHEWS - FLETCHER - MANTON, MARTYN - RATTEN - HICKMONT all retired
We got CLARKE - HARFORD - JOHNSON - MCGRATH - MORRELL - SCOTLAND AND TEAGUE.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the salaries of the players leaving will be far higher than the ones coming in, Beaumont, McKernan, Ratten and Hickmont would have all been getting a fair bit, and out of the players we got the other one on more than the average would have to be Scotland......Plus only half of Kouta's salary goes in the caps so what is the big problem?

Having Kouta on the vets list doesn't help us at all. His contract is backloaded to the extent that his veterans' salary that is counted in the TPP is pretty much the same as the last couple of years, ie around the 700K mark. That's cos this year he should be around the 1.2M mark, it doesn't save us much money.

McKay and Ratten retiring will help us, as will Manton getting delisted...he was on 300K+ (hard to believe isn't it...).

Kouta's contract was renegotiated this week. He is playing an extra year for free, with the remaining money owed to him spread across three years instead of two. So having Kouta on the VL will make a difference.

What a guy.

Supposedly Kouta took a cut as well as extending the contract. Surely he will earn more from endorsements as captain of the Blues now?

Only a few players would have been worthy of a pay rise after 2003, Thornton, Fevola, Waite, Sporn and Houlihan maybe and that doesn't come close to how many we cut loose. However remember that some players would be on backloaded contracts so their wage might jump significantly next year.
