You havent been yourself this season. You had an absolute shocker today. As your buddy, I'm concerned. You are or have been a very servicable swingman and dependable player? What's going on?

He forgot how to kick. He seriously should have put us in front on two occasions, sitters like that cannot be recovered. You only get so many shots at goal. The turnovers that he managed in the last quater killed us.

Pure and simple. Sorry to say, your man needs to spend some time in the magoos!:thumbsd:

He has lost his mojo, very good player when he is up and running.

Has there ever been a player who has been successful playing as a swing man between attack and defence?

Considering that whenever that sort of role is mentioned, the name that always come up is Adam Hunter, I think it's safe to say that no player has been all that successful switching between the two.

McPharlin isn't a forward, as he simply can't kick for goal. We need to settle him into defence again. It's where he plays his best football.

He's not fulltime forward, swing forward maybe..But certainly not a fulltime forward.

I fail to see why Tarrant, Grover and McPharlin can't all play down back together.

FFS he had one bad game! He is not a swing-man. (I think that swinging is forbidden in his "faith") As freo fans we have a lot to bitch about but McPharlap is an AA defender or a decent forward.

...well at least until the AFL makes marking the ball illegal for defenders becuase it slows the game down too much.

nope hes been poor all season especially when forward missing easy goals at crucial times.

send him to the backline and then only move forward if he has no matchups down there or team has no decent tall forwards to worry about

the guy is not a forward. He can't kick, his techinique is diabolical, even Pav couldn't kick straight swinging the ball around the way Mcpharlin does on his run up. Mcpharlin also tends to miss important goals. When the pressure isn't on you can normally rely on him to slot it, but if its 5 minutes to go in the last quarter he'll miss absolute sodas.

Send him down back and put him up forward only in the most dire circumstances.

I can think of no words to describe how shit he was today, everything he did turned to shit, smothered kicks, clangers, missing sitters, fumbles, easily the worst game I've seen him play, must be dropped.

I am a big Elvis fan and I have to admit he's been fairly average this year which is a bit disappointing given he's one of our few A grade players, but it was a new low today - that's got to be the worst game I've seen him play. The miss on goals are one thing, but its the other stuff which was getting to me. He's generally average dependable with disposal at least and can lay a decent tackle too, but he just couldn't get a thing right today, especially in the second half. :(

He'll come good though because he's got the raw talent and athleticism, he's experienced and a hard worker. He'll get his groove back don't worry about it. :thumbsu:.

gees talk about vultures.

no one was criticising his kicking when he was kicking us multiple bags of 5.

The guy CAN play both ends very well. Obviously had a poor game against geelong, but he has clearly shown he can be a matchwinner up forward or down back.

And Dockerland1 - to even entertain the idea of dropping him to the wafl is absolutely ridiculous and laughable

Freo1 , without wanting to make you open your eyes when praying at the alter of Elvis. He cost us the game today, his awful disposal, kicking for goals when we needed to put on scoreboard pressure, turning the ball over resulting in goals.

There is no doubt that he can be an excellent player, you must admit that he has not been as good as he has been ALL year. He was our worst performed player today by a mile. You drop your worst players and bring in the best alternatives. We need goal kickers, Elvis is not it!

Ballantyne for Elvis. It is called good football management. He needs confidence, he will get it in the magoos!:thumbsd:

And that was what, 5 years ago (he kicked 5 in a quarter and a bit once)? He's not a forward. Good mark, but not so much in the forward line, and his disposal is and remains awful. Send him back into defense. In fact, Tarrant's goalkicking woes have caused this problem to some extent. Now we have all our of decent KPPs in defensive or midfield (Pav) roles, and no one to kick it to! Campbell ain't a good KPP, and Kepler? Please. :o

Forget about the umpires, he cost us the game. Simple.
Agreed.

He was shit and if Harvs is serious, he should be dropped. Geelong had 23 players yesterday, and the 23rd wasn't an umpire.

Regret not telling him to pull his finger out when I saw him in Freo the other week. Really needs to be told how terrifyingly shit he has become.

It isn't his kicking or clangers which should see him dropped. It is his insipid efforts on the ball/man. Go and look at that "tackle" on Gamble in the goalsquare in the third quarter which typified McPharlin's desire. Lays out a token arm and weakly falls to the ground. You might not be able to stop the goal, but you simply have to do better than that.

If your going to bag LM over that then lay into all the other players who either Missed tackles/Fell over because majority of our players were doing that for alot of the game.

Annoyed me to no end to see our players miss tackles/fall over at important times.

Yes, McPharlin was one of them but there was many others in the same boat but because it wasn't in front of goal no one notices. (mind you the ball for that goal you are talking about should have never got there in the first place if it wasn't for a turn over up the ground)

Nope, he's had a shit year and for mine needs a severe attitude readjustment

I think thats what some people are missing, This isn't just one bad game, His year has been well below par and needs to be told its not acceptable. Even if that is Dropping him down to WAFL for a game.

Why can't we just leave him down back?? We have a player that is outstanding down back and beats his opponant most times and we throw him forward and stuff up his confidence. We done this all through the Connelly era and this whole swing thing reaks of the same. Just leave him down back and let the other team worry about him.

Agreed.

Needs to be dropped to the WAFL or alternatively moved to FB/CHB.

I would like to see Mcpharlin at FB and Taz at CHB. Taz has a huge motor and he doesn't need to use it at FB. I think he could be a great rebounding CHB who really hurts the opposition the other way. His field kicking is generally very good and he usually makes the right decision.

Johnson to CHF when he comes back, dropping back into the FF position as required.
