Collingwood and Hawthorn will still be better. West Coast will also be better.
Carlton will be fighting for an outside chance with other short term fix clubs, like Sydney, for the last spot in the top 8, before diving for another top up.
Some good responses coming in here, people genuinely trying to help Carlton identify what the issues are. Very good of everyone to attempt to diagnose what's wrong with this side. I am sure the Carlton folk on the Bay greatly appreciate the diagnoses.
I am really worried that there is a cultural issue, as identified by other posters earlier in the thread, that arises when a team deliberately loses, or "tanks" for a sustained period of time. I am genuinely concerned that this could have such a psychological impact on Carlton people that they now just EXPECT failure, so long have they lived with it.
It might not be completely unlike Stockholm syndrome, where a captive comes to identify with their captor, and often end up supporting them, even loving them. Carlton folk might now love failure, and if they do, it's going to take a long time to uproot such an attitude.
Another Carltank first round "Pick" coming up.
Hi guys,
I'm worried. Worried, worried, worried. It gets so bad as I can't sleep at night for worrying. What ails me, you ask? This -
![]()
Yep, the navy blues. They really have me worried over here.
You see, I thought the Blues were on the rise. I thought they were "coming". In fact, I thought we all knew they were coming -
![]()
And, I thought they were cooking up something good for their supporters. I really did. And so did we all, I thought -
![]()
Yep, I really did.
With three #1 draft picks in their side, secured by some really successful tanking for three wooden spoons (Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer), and with the great Chris Judd at the helm, secured by some really successful outside the cap payments, the Blues SHOULD be the #1 team in the comp.
No other team has had access to this much "talent", with the exception of the two new clubs, but they are still only new to the comp. Outside of them, no club has had the opportunity to recruit a premiership team, like Carlton has. With the players they've been able to recruit and trade for (not forgetting the magnificent Lachie Henderson of course), the Blues should be an absolute powerhouse.
But, they're not. I note this morning that they lost to the Bulldogs? This is a team who are - unfortunately for them - on the slide. The dogs prelim window is shut now, after successfully making a couple of prelims, and they are going to miss finals, and have to rebuild. That's fine, it's all part of the cycle. And yet, the Blues lost to them? That really gets me worried.
What's going on, guys? Why are Carlton struggling so badly? Is there anything we can do to help? What's going wrong down there?
Perhaps Brissy could help us with our forward line woes? I came across the 'Best 22 for Rd 1' thread on the Brissy board the other day and the consensus was that these guys are your best options.
How can Carlton (or any team for that matter) possibly hope to be competitive against this awseome goal kicking combination?![]()
Enjoy your banz for quoting team boards.
As to the actual forward line? We are missing a fairly key part of it through injury.
But back on topic - we're rebuilding, we're not tanking for draft picks. I'm not worried about us because we're on the way back, not trying to peak, as you guys are.
Kruzin, as a long time follower of Carlton, you might be able to give us some special insight. Tell us, what do YOU think is wrong with Carlton? I've asked this question of a couple of Carlton posters now, and all I've received is baffled silence. Can you help out?
If an ageing, injury prone forward is a key part of your forward line going forward, then Brissy is in more strife than I thought.
No, rebuilding required when you trade for Proven guns like Fev and now the sharp shanker..I mean shooter Jordan Lisle.
As for what's wrong with Carlton. Not much (unless you're looking at NAB form) other than not being able to put all our best KP players on the ground at the same time last season and this pre-season. I don't think Jamison, Waite & Kruezer played many games together last year, which was frustrating. Gibbs getting injured before the WCE final hurt our chances of going further as well.
With just a bit of luck Carlton would have won that final against WCE. On a different day Walker would have got the free kick in the last minute. If Gibbs & Kruez played, Carlton FTW (we really needed a second ruck that night) Warnock was very tired being Double teamed by Cox & NicNat...alas it wasn't to be. However, I would have been confident of giving Geelong a run for their money (as we did during our H&A match) ..at least a better run for their money than WCE put up in the prelim. As much as Bay13 posters dispute it, Carlton were a premiership threat last year (if they got past WCE) hence they are one of the favourites for the flag this year along with the Hawks. Just need a few things to go our way as far as injury to our KP players.
The fact that you're writing us off based on a few practice matches, shows you really don't know much about where Carlton are at as a team.
Hey Kruz, you know what irony is? I've bolded it for you.

The difference is we have 3 other forwards who can kick 150+ goals between them. U MAD?![]()
Such a sad post.
If.....a little bit of luck.....Poor widdle Warnock was tired...We woulda done better than West Coast, even though West Caost beat Geelong and beat us twice........We were a Premiership threat *sob* but we was just unlucky *sob*
Thanks for the lulz![]()
Can you tell me the last time a team reliant on small forwards have won a flag?
Lucky we have Waite, Hampson, krezuer and Henderson (thanks bears) then.

Well, don't you feel for their supporters? All that time watching tanking happen, and getting their hopes up, and it's ending up nowhere. Don't you sympathise with all of those supporters out there who thought they were coming?
Oh if they don't beat us it'll be a disaster. They absolutely MUST get back on track against our bunch of kids. We're the 2nd youngest team in the comp, we're at the bottom of a rebuild, and we've lost our captain and best player. I'm just glad we'll be able to give them a win to get them started again. Because losing to us would mean things are even worse than I thought.![]()
