when do we start calling the years the way we did in the 1900's, that is to be calling this year twenty-owe-six. I've already started because i dont think that there should be a double standard between centuries. Will it start at Twenty-ten? or do you think we will be stuck with this all the way to two thousand and ninety nine. personally i prefer the sound of twenty ninety nine. This may be pointless, but this is what me and my mates argued about for hours the other night

Work expands so as to fill the time available according to Parkinson’s Law. You guys could have done a lot worse things with the spare time you had on your hands the other night. I reckon it’s a good question. What happened last century? My guess is that it will become the norm in Twenty-ten. Sounds a bit silly before 2010; O.K. after.

Of course, naming of the decades could be a subject for another night. Thirties and Twenties sounds good, Teenies is stupid and I doubt any of your friends would go for noughties.

I think a better discussion would be "how long is a piece of string"
If you guys can't get a whole day out of that, then you just aren't trying.:D

No smilie so I guess you're fair dinkum. Good luck to a bunch of young blokes having a bit of fun without hurting anybody else. If you insist on profound intellectual world-problem-solving conversation, pop into the Sundowner and join in to the conversations that have been going for a couple of hours.

p.s. What kind of string?:)

What's wrong with saying "two thousand and ten"?

Absolutely nothing TS; I just said it and it sounded O.K.

Obviously there are no laws or regulations about this, what will be will be. I think Casey is simply curious about what will naturally develop in time, given that "Twenty" sounds so different to "Eighteen", "Nineteen" etc.

Well when we speak of the past millenium, for example the year 1075, we say ten seventy-five rather then one thousand seventy five. Shouldnt the same be said for this millenium
