Part 2 of this thread is here:

The Carlton - Essendon arguments over the last few pages are very, very different to when I was a kid.
We are both big clubs that have gone backwards and/or treaded water with moments of good footy over the last 15 years or so. We have both found it hard to rise up the ladder and be challengers again. Hopefully we both can do it at some stage despite the petty trolling that goes on in here.

If that helps you come to terms with the smacking (with 8 out) then sure, why not.

One of these teams is rebuilding and one is loading up for finals. Which is which?

Stop, it's embarrassing

Oof it's bad when even your own clubs supporters start calling you out.

Joint is a circus. One of the worst run organisations in the country.

Going nowhere without a massive on & off-field culture shift. The long-held acceptance of conditional performances by so-called senior players has resigned the place to an almost terminal state.

The awful, stale coaching staff who offer zero - John Barker has been there 10 years without as much as an ounce of ingenuity or creativity. The ridiculous, detached management speak by Bolton and then Teague of learnings, lessons and getting better. How inspiring?!

The dreadful development of guys like Dow, Stocker and countless others over the years.

The recruitment/drafting of guys who sleep with the light on in Setterfield, Petrevski-Seton, McGovern and O'Brien. Scared of there own shadows and will take the club nowhere.

The awful list management decisions - and the message it sends - in keeping Murphy (would not get a game anywhere, perhaps except North). They made the call on Simpson - yes, at retirement age, but a guy who actually has the respect of his peers and is pound-for-pound one of the toughest and most durable, was playing good footy and wanted to play on, in favour of a bloke who shirks it continually, refuses to stand up when the going is tough, and is not a leader's ar$ehole.

The gutless administration's spinelessness in making the so-called tough decisions, will see clubs who started rebuilds recently give Carlton windburn as they fly past, while the Blues continue to languish.

From the outside looking in... are Carlton's line coaches even on speaking terms?
The connection between defence-mid-forward is terrible.
Combine that with some issues developing players and all the free agents int he world aren't going to help them. On paper the talent is actually there to be developed.
Even if they just eliminated the 'hot potato' handballs from their game Carlton would push for the eight.

Carlton have a talented list but god that Williams deal isn’t looking great early.
bright side, it's only money and money they needed to spend.
So no major setback for them. Can't see it mucking up their list

A couple of mids and a KPF to support McKay would set them up nicely.

All yes men

When you have drafted talent like Dow SPS Fisher O'Brien Cuningham Durdin Williamson Ramsay Philp Honey Setterfield Cottrell and NONE are really stepping up that is a Development/Coaching issue.

Playing Cripps with a fractured back, Casboult with a chronic knee is just stupid

Rest Cripps Casboult and McKay and give the kids a run?

Sort of feel for Saad, poor bloke left Gold Coast, who gave him his first crack. Went to Essendon, hoping for success didn't get it. Moved to Carlton seeking better performance, finals etc, not going to get that there either. Wonder how long he has left at Carlton before he requests a trade?

Obviously there for success, not money. Money has nothing to do with it.

I can't feel sorry for anyone who is naive enough to leave their club for Carlton with the expectation of success.

Also, wasn't a big reason as to why he left Essendon because he refused to play the accountable role/s he was being asked to perform?

No idea, I cant help but think money was an issue too. He has never been a good defender. Clubs dont expose it enough. He is at his 3rd club in 7 years. He hasn't had any issues that reflect poorly on a club, so he has never been pushed out. Left on his own accord, chasing " Success " but money is good too, right?

See how we go, this deal is four years I believe? He will be 31 when it is over. Dont be surprised if he plays for a fourth. If he is chasing success, he isn't going to get it at Carlton, they are at least 3-4 years away.
