Where Batchelor's not at

Bachelor is in our best 22. Dea is close. I'd rather Dea replace Petterd. Batch was huge against Carlton, but St Kilda did their homework on him and shut him down. Both should be part of the future.

No he's not 22, he's 21, silly people.

I like that he's getting time to develop properly at Coburg. I think they'll start to give him some midfield time so in 3 years time when he's the same age as Petterd he is the perfect replacement to slot in there.

It's nice having depth.

....... He is playing in a role he hasn't played for some 9 years since his juniour days, at a club he has only been at 6 or so months, and is still trying to wrap his head around the intricacies of our gameplan, and our team first ethos.......

I am uncertain about Petterd and it isn't because of the items you have discussed above - he has made some critical skills errors (dropped marks, missed kicks etc) at critical times in a couple of matches. I am not writing him off just yet but am keeping an eye on him from this perspective (trying to keep an open mind about it !!).

However - Petterd who is more match hardened, been around longer and at least goes in hard, quite possibly doesn't offer the long term advancement of Dea or Batch, but at the moment doesn't offer less. It means that these two can really learn their craft at Coburg and be fully ready when they come into the team full time - whether that be this year, next or even, god forbid!, the year after!!

Not only do we now have depth - we also have the ability to develop players properly. Maybe we also have the ability to play horses for courses (ie Tuck doesn't play against the faster teams?).

We'll have to agree to disagree there, I think Batchelor could be much more than a good ordinary footballer. He's got a few kinks to iron out but when he plays within himself he's very, very good. And only in his 3rd year.

Dea's been around longer and shown far less at senior level.

Also had a serious ankle injury that took 16 months out of his footy/training.

I rate him. I think people underestimate how valuable his third man in style defence is. Reads the play beautifully and has saved a number of goals. Needs time and to continually play footy. I'd be persisting with him but the coaches don't share the same view.

Last week Petterd whilst a bit sloppy with disposal created run off half bacl with18 disposals and 6 tackles. Batch had 8 disposals and 1 tackle. Batch is not competing with Pet anyway its either he or Grimes play when Chaplin is fit.Rt Both play the same role

Agree, but the thing is, the critical skill errors you listed Petterd as having, Batch is also guilty of. For someone who was rated as having great footskills, but his kicking has been pretty woeful so far, and not at all the standard we saw in his first couple of years. This may just be a lack of confidence in himself, as he is in and out of the side every second week, but still he isn't doing himself any favours when he is in the side.

That being said, I agree with everything else.

Batch and Dea are both part of the future IMO - either or both may not be best 22 players (though I personally think Batch is or should be) but even if they aren't they should be kept as valuable depth players. Both are young and have plenty of time to develop and both seem to have good heads on their shoulders which only adds to the general culture at the club.

Talk of either or both being traded/delisted is pre emptive really.
