List Mgmt. Where can we show improvement?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

If I could pick one player in the comp to add to our list it would be Isaac Smith.
Matty White was another i would have loved us to poach but Isaac Smith is in another league .
He would be huge for the crows !! love this choice a perfect fit .

Agree that we desperately need another KPD.

Think you are harsh on Hartigan. How many KPDs do you know who feel completely comfortable in the AFL system after two preseasons and 10 games? Far far too early to negatively judge Hartigan. I think he has shown plenty so far and would like to see him given another 15 games next year before we make a decision.

For me - in order - our biggest needs are:

#1 Ruckman - Targets - Gorringe / Lycett / Griffin / Giles.

We need someone in case Sauce goes down. We may as well keep Graham - he isn't taking anyones spot and can be used next year as cannon fodder when we come up against Freo and Sandilands. The thing I don't want is for Sauce to miss games next year and we waste valuable experience on Angus Graham. Have to get a quality 20-22 year old ruckman who is the future.

#2 KPD - Targets - Davis / Frawley / Fisher / LRT

With only Hartigan and Talia being capable of holding down big forwards in 2015 - we need something here. I absolutely think we should be going for Frawley or Davis as they would be an amazing addition. If we can't get either, I would be fine going for an LRT type - experience big body who can step in for a year or two until Hartigan is ready.

# 3 Run and Carry with good footskils - Targets - Higgins / Garlett / Brad McKenzie (North).

Definitely need more elite users of the footy.

What we have to trade:

I think our biggest surplus is young midfielders:

Over 25 Midfielders:
Thompson (31), Van Berlo (28), Douglas (27), Mackay (26)

Younger Midfielders:
Danger (24), Sloane (24), Wright (24), Lyons (22), Grigg (21), Kerridge (21), Crouch (20), Crouch (19).

We could easily move on 2 of these midfielders. Personally I would be looking at Kerridge / Wright / Lyons.
If we let Kerridge go we are the dumbest team in the league ! he is an A grade talent .

At a Crows breakfast the other morning Sando was asked if he could have any one player who would it be. Thought he would say Ablett. He said the first name that came to him was Nat Fyfe. Just loves the way he plays. Other name was Jimmy Bartel because of his ability to play anywhere and ability to influence the game. Recognized that he is now towards end of his career.

Also was asked whether we would see Smith in the midfield. He quickly said no, we're getting too much value from him off half back, whilst we have a fit and healthy midfield.

Yeah I forgot about Fyfe. Still reckon Smith is the player we need most.

Another defensive pillar.

A left foot dead eye dick off half back.

Another jet midfielder.

Forward line is great. Apart from Bickley.

And finally - a high-profile, experienced assistant.

Decision making is where we will improve the most.

So many of our forward entries are to dumb spots or we are too indecisive and dish out an extra handball to ruin a possession chain.

Whatever types of players we need, we need them to be smart footballers.

I was thinking of a similar themed thread. Looking at our side which players we expect to be part of our next premiership side and where the holes are. Here's my effort:

Brown Talia TBA
Smith TBA Henderson
DMack Danger TBA
Kerridge Tex Cameron
Betts Jenkins TBA

Jacobs Sloane Crouch

Crouch Douglas Laird TBA

That means some reasonable players miss out, such as Otten, Lynch, Jaensch but if we are going to be serious contenders we need to improve. Id include DMack but we've just re-signed him for 4 years, WTF

What happened to your Dougy avatar?

Would love to see Smith to the wing
Kerridge could go to the HBF
Lynch to the HFF.

These threads are too full of hypotheticals. 2 years ago Jaensch wouldnt have been in anyones "super improved premiership contending" side. Yet he has been amazing this year. Few years ago Reilly had a great year and would have been in the team. Dougy was shit, then came good. So the speculation that Otten wont improve, Hartigan wont make it, Martin wont make it etc is just too hard to predict. Every season there are players who drop off the face of the planet, and others improve leaps and bounds.

We got no key forward in the SANFL. Glaring deficiency.

True - but we are running 4 of them in the AFL. One is injured (Johnston) and one is a ruck/fwd in the SANFL (Smack). Thats 6 talls on our list who can play up forward.

Something we need to address - but not as big of a need as a 2nd Ruck, KPD and speedy outside player.

If we let Kerridge go we are the dumbest team in the league ! he is an A grade talent .

In an area that we have plenty of A grade talent (Danger, Crouch, Thommo, Sloane).

We need to improve our squad. He has the most currency on our list. I rate the Keg more than most, which is why I think we could get a lot back for him.

Yep solid move.

Taken out jaensch, one of our best kicks and most improved, and provides run to help free up smith.

Taken out lynch, our biggest engine, our most improved player last year, and allows tex and Jenkins to stay closer to goal.

Are you saying you wouldn't include Dmac if he didn't just sign for 4 years? On ballers with speed and link up ability don't grow on trees

Looks solid

Thompson has one more year at best , even now he can be a liability in the midfield . He wins the ball but butchers it more than most and gets killed on the spread . It is no surprise to me that we beat the Pies without our 3 dead legged players in Rutten , Reilly and Thommo .
Notice our W to L ratio with Rutten out of the team this year ... plus you need at least 10 midfield types in the 22 and Kerridge is probably the best outside of Dangerfield to go forward and slot a few . He should never be on the table .

I think Thommo has improved on his butchering...in that he doesn't do it as much as the last few years.
That's just my impression...I too used to be critical of this.
Must have at least one season left in him.
Like most in this thread - I also think we need a key defender, and ruck.
We also need a strategy to improve our goal kicking o_O FFS !!!!
I'd hate to tally up games we lost over the recent past whereby poor kicking for goal lost us games.

Recent past probably goes back 10 years.

IMO we need to bring in:

(1) Outside mid who can hit a ****ing target by foot (trade/draft/FA)
(2) KPD as none of Hartigan, LT, Shaw, Siggins are ready/good enough at this stage
(3) Young, project ruck (Sauce is 26 so it's a good time to bring in a kid and give him a 5 year apprenticeship)
(4) KPF as we are bereft of KPF depth
(5) Medium defender with good agility and footskills (i.e. a Birchall type)

A grade?
Potential to be solid b for mine.
Sloaney a grade. .. Not sure I see kegs being that good.
We will agree to disagree then but i look forward to revisiting this thread in 3 years time ! he is 21 and has been exposed to many different roles and been brought along quite slowly . He is a gun in the making ! Well built , decent pace , good tank , excellent decision making and foot skills , very strong overhead for his size with excellent goal sense and one of our best set shots for goal also . This kid will make it as an A-grade midfielder no question in my mind .
