Where does the test match ball go overnight?

Does it stay at the ground? If so, where? Or does the umpire take it?

Just curious! I captain a local side and the ball usually stays in my glovebox for a week between Saturdays in two day games!

I would imagine the ball would be kept at the ground by ground staff.

I find it interesting that you take the ball home in between Saturdays for two day games, as when I was umpiring local cricket I always took the ball home with me (& then spent the week being harassed by my son to let him & his mates use it for their backyard games).

Self umpired in the bush mate. Can't get enough umpires up here. Only 1st grade gets umpires.
