You know, commentators occassionally keep banging on about how players aren't getting more accurate with shots on goal, despite the money in the sport.

Looking at that list, and the dearth of recent performances to make that dubious honour I think perhaps that said commentators may be guilty of viewing historical abilities through rose-coloured glasses.

I wouldn't say that. These days we have indoor stadiums, perfect grass, huge stands, better boots etc.
 
I can recall Allen Jakovich kicking 4.10 against the Hawks back in 1994. Dobbed all the hard ones and missed all the easy ones. Typical Jakovich.
