Vote in the poll and discuss your answer. While the work is obviously not done yet I feel like it's these offseasons that will go down as the ones that set us up.

I can't actually pick one right now. If the players turn out to be as good as we think they will it really is some amazing drafting/trading.

From a purely draft perspective, 2014. McCartin and Goddard put two monsters at either end of the ground for us. D-Mac a very handy player and Lonie is an absolute bargain at 41. Oh. And Sinclair. Sinclair is a gun.

Including trades, 2013 probably. Josh Bruce tips it to 2013's favour, how often do you get a forward who kicks 50 goals in his first full season of playing forward, for a measly pick in the late 40s that GWS wouldn't end up using? Crazy bargain.

McCartin and Goddard end up our book ends the Saints are in a great position. If they play 15-20 games each lookout!!!

Gotta say I'm intrigued by McCartin and McKenzie unknowns as far as their potential goes. Goddard I am convinced will be a long term player for us

Agreed. Longer will also be a star and Savage should be serviceable.

But of we are just talking the picks it's 2014 every day of the week.

When it's layed out like that it's very hard to pick and shows what great recruiting we have done

I seem to be on the minority as I went for option 3 simply because I believe Carlisle will be great for us once he switches on his brain and I am hoping Fredman can live up to the number 10 pick. Add to that we seem to have done well in the drafting
But any group that includes Billings is pretty good to

I decided to leave 2015 out of the equation for now since we haven't seen all of them play at AFL level yet, so it's between 2013 and 2014 for me.

Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Templeton, Weller, Bruce, Savage, Longer and Delaney is one impressive T&D period.

McCartin, Goddard, McKenzie, Lonie, Sinclair, Payne and Membrey is another impressive haul.

There's a lot of talent in both lists and the majority of them will become a core part of our future... it's bloody hard to separate them, though!

I ended up voting for 2013, but I would vote for all 3 if I could.

How much of it is also about comparing apples with apples, though? We started with better picks in 2014, compared to 2013, for example.

Fascinating thread topic. Thanks hayes.

2013 definitely. Mark my words that will be considered an absolute superdraft of champions. Considering we now hold 20% of the top 20 picks from that draft we will be sitting fine. :)

Can't get much better than 2013 IMO. There's 6 best 22 players on that list and Acres who I think will be a gun. They are all very good off seasons though.

If we go by best 22 players I think '13 and '14 are even, I reckon we'll end up with 6 best 22 players from each. I went 2013 though cause there's a better chance we could end up with one or two more but I think it's closer than what the poll suggests so far.

22 players picked up in 3 years...

just them alone should be a reasonably competitive AFL team in ~ 3 years, one would think

McKenzie Goddard Rice
White Carlisle Sav
Freeman Dunstan Mav
Billings Bruce Members
Sinclair McCartin Lonie

Longer Acres Gresh

Int: Eli OKearny Coughlan Payne

obviously some big question marks there, but geez, not a bad team from 3 pre-seasons....

pretty balanced recruiting as well.. there seems to be some moaning about a lot Half backs.. certainly did not pick up too many the past 3 years.. just the right number really

Unfair on 2015. Really difficult on potential alone.
All three years have been excellent.

Billings Bruce and Longer have been good from 13. Acres and Dunstan are to step up still.

Potential in McCartin and Goddard is enormous. Lonie DMAC and Sinclair we're outstanding pickups.

Carlisle is an outstanding recruit combined with Goddard. Freeman could be anything and Gresham is talked about ( not just by us tragics) as the steal of the draft. White? Well reportedly our recruiters were high fiving each other after pick 40.

So I can't vote. I can't tell. Dp think yhe whole will be far greater than the sum of the parts for us though

To be fair there are usually about 30 "steals of the draft"... I don't think anybody would be able to beat Sydney's first pick... daylight robbery that was.

did you forget dunstan's first year? the reason he got Lenny's number and everyone was calling him our future captain? You seem to have a short memory... ;)

Also, he appears to have engaged beast mode:

No I don't, but he needs to step up next season. 2015 was ordinary for him, but he was playing with injury and possibly 2nd year blues.

Basically it was a critique of the three draft periods and where they stand.

X Clarke was given Nathan Burkes jumper BTW, how did that work out?
