Well, i'm just curious to find out, you seem to have a hatred towards Australia and its cricket team, and I was wondering what was the cause of all this ?.

At least I have an excuse to not support the Aussies (I was born in South Africa) do you ?.

Definatly no hatred towards Australia...i love this place...best place in the world.

no hatred towards the Aussie cricket team either.
I was rooting for South Africa to win today...sometimes its bloody boring watching the Aussie cricket team win everything that comes there way...so this result was good i reckon. NZ v SA final will be good.

However...i dont like Bevan...ive never liked Steve Waugh, i have a hatred towards the Australian selectors who seem to have a thing for NSW cricketers. Pretty much if you dont play for NSW you got no hope of playing for the Aussie cricket team. The way Lehmann has been shafted by the selectors for the last 5-6 years contributed largely for my hatred of the selectors. Not to mention the fact they play favourites.
I have a hatred to our umpires, who cheat like crazy. Anyone that reckons they dont favour the Aussies is blind or ignorant in my opinion. The no ball situation today summed it up perfectly in my view.

Other than that i got no quarms. Ive barracked for Australia 98% of the time ive followed cricket. I was hoping New Zealand made the finals cos i reckon they are a good team and deserve to be in there this summer. Back in 95-96 i went for Sri Lanka because i found them to be an exciting side with exciting players and they played an attacking style of cricket which i hadnt ever seen before.

so there you go. No real hatred towards the Australian cricket team. I was just sick of the fact we were winning all the damn time...can get boring and monotonous (sp?) at times.

Macca,

In 1995-96 I was cheerign for SriLanka too, because they were the first side to take full advanatge of the fielding restrictions in the first 15 overs. Kaluwitharana, the keeper was an absolute gun and it was great to watch.

They were so entertaining to watch, and they had been underdogs for years so it was good to see them as a competitive team.

BTW, the selectors aren't biased. NSW has the biggest population and will always provide more players than any other state.

And what have you got against Bevan? It's not like he plays in the Test side, and his one-day record (average of 57 strike rate of 80) was beyond criticism I would have thought.

The problem with bevan is that 95% of the time he plays for himself and not the team. Hes not prepared to risk his wicket to lift the run rate most of the time. Also the only reason his average is so high is for that same reason, he plays for himself and so doesnt take risks, meaning he gets n.o.s all the time.

Everyone seems blinded by the odd occasion when he does his job (like that time against the windies or the other night), but they are few and far between.

I also mostly root for other teams when they play Australia, not because I hate Australia or the team, but like Macca the players sh*t me. If the Waughs, Bevan and Lee weren't in the team I'd be much happier (lol, just realised those are all NSW players, a trait of that state perhaps? :D )

Which would explain Simon Cook getting a game......

Not just Kaluwith (who i believe got the Cricketer of the year that year) but Jayasuriya and Aravinda De Silva also went nuts in the first few overs. I remember the first game it happened i just sat there with my mouth open going "my god, they are gonna score 600 runs here". Was great cricket.

I find Bevan to be the most overrated player ever to don the green and gold. Garth summed it up pretty well. Everyone thinks he is a legend for three innings hes played..out of how many?? 150?? Yesterday was more like his usual form....a fantastic knock of 1. He usually has a great innings once a summer, and the rest he does nothing. Ive lost count the amount of times we've been going alright, and hes come in to bat and slowed things right down and stuffed it up.
There was a few times last year, when we were batting second, where it seemed he was purposely batting slow just so he could be a hero. Ive never seen someone block a few balls an over, in the last few overs of the run cahse, when we need something like 30 off 25 balls. Why on earth would you start blocking balls??

His greedy and plays for himself more often than he plays for the team. Thats why i dont like him.

Thanks Macca, my sentiments on cricket, and of this country are qiute similar to yours (eg Warne and McGrath **** me beyond belief, and I do think that Darryl Hair is becoming more biased every season), and like most people, it does get boring when one side dominates all the time, and it especially irritates me that people like Lehmann get screwed by the selctors, whilst the Waugh brothers and Martyn get looked after like they're gods.

And although I do support the aussies most of the time (when Lehmann, Symonds, Bichel and Hayden are in the team, I've warmed to them, especially Darren Lehmann, the unluckiest cricketer around), I was sort of glad to see then not get into the finals, because one, we didn't deserve to be there, and secondly, it's always good to see someone else win for a change.

I'll be watching the first final at the MCG, and I hope that I see a good contest.

Martyn??? Since when has he been looked after like a god? He is now 30, but has been brilliant in Sheffield Shield cricket for years. You may have a case for the Australian captain, leading Australian run-scorer (behind Border) in Test cricket and best Batsman in this country of the last decade; and his brother, Australia's leading run-scorer in one day internationals...ever; however their form has not been great this summer, but Martyn, please!

Tredders#16

Damien Martyn has deserved his place in the test team, there is no doubting that (and you're right, he was victimised by the ACB for the loss in Sydney against South Africa in 1993/94), but he hasn't got the scoring power or the intelligence to be a one day batsman (the way he didn't change his tactics to that brilliant Stephen Fleming field placement, is testamount to that), and all he was doing was taking Lehmann's rightful spot in the team.

And Macca, I don't believe that Australian umpires are out and out cheats (that's a matter of interpretation, and all of us will see things differently), but they are no better or no worse than any other umpires in the world.

P.S
If Boucher took that catch below the ball, there wouldn't be any debate, but since that he took it like a first baseman in Baseball, there was an element of doubt, and the third umpire (who is neutral, by the way) was right to give it to the batsman, if it's doubtful (which is a cardinal rule of cricket, always give the batsman the benefit of the doubt), and anyway, Gilchrist went out so it didn't have any real bearing on the result.

Macca19,
Your abuse of Bevan is unwarranted at best, moronic at worst. How on Earth can you claim all he does is play for himself? His running between the wickets is beyond suicidal at times. His strokeplay, when necesary, can be of an agressive nature, but the vast majority of the time that is not what he is needed to do. He is picked in the team to hit 8 singles from every 10 balls he faces, and he does that consistently. Always good for his 50 odd, yet rarely makes tons. Big deal! Steve Waugh only has a handful of ODI 100's and he has played over 400 games. It is definitley not the be all and end all of this format of the game.

Anyone in the cricketing world with any sence would pick Bevan just about first in the all time best ODI team. This was proven after the 1999 WC when he literally was the first picked by a team of some of the best cricketing talent ever, consisting of V. Richards, A. Border, D. Gower, Sir G. Sobers just to name a few.

I don't know about you other fellas, but I'm going to side with the aforementioned ahead of Macca on this one.

Actually Dan although thats what everyone thinks New Zealand actually took a similar approach to the 92 world cup by opening with Mark Greatbatch who hit over the top early. They managed to make it to the semi finals with this method.;) On Bevan his strike rate speaks for itself he just paces himself differently to other batsman. To say that he bats for himself is rubbish. To people bagging Steve Waugh look at his scores this summer for the one dayers he has reached 30 more times than you might think.Actually thought Mark batted alright the other day and will keep his spot.

When did i bag him for never scoring hundreds??? What has not scoring hundreds got to do with anything?

Ive never liked Bevan...ever.
This season he had a poor summer...one innings saved his average again.

Unbiased selectors?

Do you know something we don't? Please don't get sucked in to the propaganda of NSW cricket.

About Australian umpires Macca. Simon Taufell and Darrel Harper have had an excellent summer and I reckon that they will take Darryl Hair's spot on the ICC's roster of international umpires, so you could hardly call them cheats, (Darryl Hair performancees this summer is another matter entirely).
