Any other spider I am happy to capture and release but a white tail will meet the full fury of my fear and loathing.

I'm exactly the same. I don't care whether they're harmless or not, white tails will generally receive some sweet chin music from me. They're just so evil looking and they are pretty much the only ones that wonder around the house, always up to no good.

I got a black one living on the light in my bedroom whom i have named Sergio. Hes been there for a few months now. I might take a pic and upload it.

Ill edit this when its uploaded

Ive claimed it as a pet

We had one like this at my old house which had set up camp in the corner of the bathroom window (inside). Watched him grow from just a pup into a heavy weight over the course of maybe 8 months? We were more than happy to let him be. The amount of flies (generally big stinkin' blow flies too) he devoured was awesome. After a couple days of cleaning up below where the web was, there'd be leftovers of 5 or more on the window sill. Sometimes if there was a blow fly we couldn't swat, we'd try and usher it into the bathroom where it would eventually get stuck in the web. Sadistic or not, it's an awesome sight seeing these spiders at work.

Was only when we moved out of the house that we had to clean up the web (he retreated back into his hiding spot though, so we never had to kill him). Hopefully the new owners had the humility not to squish him :(

Just got done reading this thread and my sister (who is temporarly living at my house with her kids) emptied a can of fly spray on a spider that was sitting amongst the kids toys in their makeshift room. As she did so, tons of tiny little spiders began to appear. The little shit was having babies.

That happened to me once, except I hit it with a shoe when all of a sudden a whole bunch of little bastards crawled out. It was like a friggen horror movie. I got them all with bug spray and then got the f*ck out.

Funnelwebs in perth? You sure?

Well theyre probably not technically funnel webs.

But im from sydney, I know what proper ones look like, including the webs.

They are probably scientifically classed as something else, but to a layman, it looks identical.

Spiders can't evolve silly, call me when they can get drunk.

LOL.

Like I said, it may not be TECHNICALLY a funnel web, but its a little black furry spider.

And it builds a web with a funnel in it.

Totally missed my point idiots.

And why would spiders get drunk when they can be gangsta?

This thread reminded me of that time I saw a spider in the corner of my Year 7 music classroom. Never seen another like him to this day, he was an absolute BEHEMOTH (Relatively speaking of course :D). Needless to say, not a lot got done that day :D

I am sure there is and from doing a bit of reading it seems the white tail may be maligned...I dont know if I am allergic or my kids to a white tails bite but I am certainly not going to take any chances.
Surely you aliens could combat spiders with your pew pew guns.

^^ Orb weavers. I get a similar one out the front about this time every year - spins its web between a verandah post and a nearby tree. During the day it crawls up under the roof guttering, maybe to avoid being eaten by birds, but at night it's out in its web - right about face height. Gotta remember it's there...you don't want a spider that size crawling on your face in the dark, even if they're relatively harmless.

Yep, last summer I walked straight into one. I had fairly long hair at the time as well so it got tangled up completely. An upsetting situation, but cool to see others reactions when they come round at night and just catch a view of the spider at the last second.
