Pendlebury. Never done anything to offend.

With his propensity to pull his head back and play for free kicks these days, he is about the only Collingwood player I actively boo.

Sam Mitchell is one who should be immune from booing, but suspect a few nuffies do boo him, just cause he plays for Hawthorn

There has been a fair amount of discussion about why Adam Goodes is constantly booed by opposition supporters. Is it because he plays for frees? Because he has been outspoken? Or is it racially driven. The latter seems highly improbable.

3AW Sports Today posed an interesting lightweight question - in light of the booing of Goodes is it possible to come up with a list of players and coaches who have earned the right not to be booed because of their glorious service to the game, because they are downright nice guys, or because of some other reason?

At Geelong I thought Jimmy Bartel fell into that category. I still do, but he lost browny points in 2014 when he was accused of staging for a free. Harry Taylor and Corey Enright are IMO unbooable. Both are downright good guys who have served the game well.

The great Jimmy Stynes was unbooable. Of the current players, Bob Murphy has been described as "unbooable" and Jobe Watson probably fits into that category. On the other hand Stevie J, and Boomer Harvey don't.

Of the coaches I reckon Ken Hinkley is the only unbooable character

Over to you....
Love the sarcasm. Had me cracking up.

Jobe Watson.......the WA audience were right to boo him that night, much to Luke Darcy's horror. All of Essendon deserve hell for what they have done.

Jimmy's fine when he does the right things but when he slips up and does something wrong (such as the superman audition dive against Hawthorn), it's time to boo him (team rivalry being a reason).

I wouldn't boo Alistair Clarkson if I was not a Hawthorn supporter, I agree with his point of view on the issues of the day (plus he's one of the few brave enough to put a fork in the AFL + Essendon over "that issue").

It's an odd paradox, Ted Whitten knocked his wife about, is a Hall of Famer, and revered in the game. Adam Goodes speaks out about indigenous issues, and is roundly booed.
That's the point. Social justice warriors assume he si booed for standing up for indigenous issues when in actuality he is booed for being a soft, free kick drawing, dried up hack who plays for one of the most hated clubs in the land. Oh and he abused a young girl.

It isn't racially driven. For one thing, as any biologist will tell you, there is no such thing as 'race'. It's an archaic and obsolete concept. There isn't enough diversity within Homo sapiens to justify it. It's his demeanour on the field overwhelmingly that generates the boos.

Much loved club-man shafted by a pretty inept coach.
Still caving it up at Melbourne (and had a more than decent game against us on the weekend)

I started a troll threat on the Bulldogs board about booing him first game we meet. It was a bait and switch about how much of a champ he is.
Folks didn't appreciated the joke and I was universally lynched. It spoke volumes to his lasting influence.

As a freo supporter we cop more than our fair share of boos when playing away. On that note I make it my duty to boo and abuse every player from the opposition, regardless of colour and creed. The only un booable players are the ones from my team.

If Goodes really wants to know what booing is spend a day in crowley and ballantynes shoes.

Absolutely, and whatever you think of those two, they don't bitch and moan about it to the press.

Goodes gets booed because he pointed out the racist spectator on TV and talks a lot about Indigenous problems in Australia. Some, mostly white, Australians would prefer he never talk about such things that make them comfortable.

inb4 posters pretend they've always booed him
No
He's been booed long before that incident
It has gotten worse since he was made Australian of the year though, which is when Goodes changed from being an advocate for aboriginal rights, to speaking down to anybody with an opinion that differs from his own

His on field antics also worsened following the award. For example, he actually asks The umpires for 50 (watch the replay of the weekend for example)

In short, his antics on the field are what he's booed for
How he fights for aboriginal rights amplify the boos
Him fighting for those rights are not the reason though
