The way Carlton talk themselves up you would think they would be better but ATM i would say Collingwood.

Both have glaring weaknesses

Collingwood- lack of one or two 'true midfielders.' Key position backline can also be a worry.

Carlton- Lack of quality talls, atrocious backline, lack of quality small forwards.

Both these teams will improve in these areas this year. I need to see Carltons first few games to see if they are 'melding' or not.

I can see why some people think Carlton are going to overtake us in a few years, however it could be very interesting. Collingwood have a fair few players that are in a position where no one will ever hear of them, or they will be very good players. A few of those players coming good in the right positions could change some opinions

Carlton has got more 'stars' and 'game breakers' on their list, however Collingwood have got more depth, a more solid backline and players who produce on a more consistent basis.
However going foward, and looking at relative potential of both lists, it's Carlton quite easily actually (ditto Richmond for that matter as well) over Collingwood

This is a "no brainer"!

Collingwood have got themselves into the finals 3 years running with very young teams (last year we were the youngest team to win a final since the Lions in the late '9o's).

Therefore with the superior young talent on its list the pies are and will be a better team than Carlton going forward. Carlton on the other hand have languished at or near the bottom for many years despite their supporters stating year after year that they are on the rise - we are yet to see it!

Nup.. no spine and Fev will be gone when you are ready to challenge

Not sure where everyone gets the idea Carlton will overtake us. We have some brilliant young talent, just as they do. And better yet, we have it all over the field, not just in the midfield. But still, both sides will be forces in the coming years. Anyone who says one or the other clearly for the future is just biased or deluded.

Collingwood are an interesting team.

I think the fact that they just lose games they shouldn't lose stops them from being Top 4 sides. Certainley I think they could have gotten there this year ahead of the Saints, but losing to Carlton twice, Essendon and then Fremantle just killed them.

I think Thomas will step up and be a real game breaker for Collingwood, something they need in my opinion. He'll be the type of bloke who steps up when everybody else is down and do enough to win them games. But still put in a good performance when everybody is firing.

Pendlebury and Swan are great midfielders, and Lockyer is underrated as well. Their midfield looks inferior on paper, but it gets the job done alot of the time.

Quite a few good looking KPP forwards as well. Cloke's the obvious, but Reid and Rusling look pretty good. Anthony played their a bit this year too, but im not sure if hes some sort of nutty utility because hes listed on Fanfooty as being a midfielder. Their backline goes alright too.

There kids have the runs on the board unlike the Carlton lineup. Pies group has played finals two years in a row, and been pretty good in their matches against the Cats, who have been the benchmark for two years now. :thumbsu:

Fev has 4 years left in him at least. He's turning 28 - he isn't ancient. He'll see a flag.

ATM Collingwood. In 1 or 2 years, us.

And take a look at all past champion full forwards and how many goals they kicked after 28.

As for the future we have the spine and the mids.

Under 23yr team:

O'Brien Brown Anthony
Shaw Reid Goldsack
Clarke Pendles Barham
Thomas Cloke Dick
Rusling Dawes Macaffer

Wood Wellingham McCarthy

Cox Cook Stanley Keeffe

lol what a ridiculous thread!

Colling has lost Buckleys, Clement, Licuria, Holland & wakelin to retirement, but yet played in the last 3 finals series & won finals for that matter too!

This year the pies lost Rocca, Rusling, Reid & Presti.. Yet still played finals with Dawes & Anthony as there go to forwards.. On top of that Didak & Shaw missed the last 5 games & finals!

The pies have a very young list, that will only get better...

Carlton havent played finals since 2001 & have had 3 number 1 picks injected & Chris Judd/Stevens & still cant play finals.

They rely on Fev way too much & there so lucky he is durable because if he got injured they would finish last without a doubt! There second goal kicker was Fisher & that is saying something!!

They have no backline & simply put are not in the same league.. If they get some key injuries then they will be bottom 4 for sure!

Like Gary Ablett who kicked multiple tonnes? FF's can go well into their 30s. Fev is also less crash and bash and more leading, meaning he's less injury prone. Should give his career a year or two more touch wood.

Our best-22 under 23 would most likely go:

Browne Jamison Austin
Armfield Bower Anderson
Grigg Walker Robinson
Yarran Kreuzer Russell
Hampson Edwards Betts

Warnock Gibbs Murphy

Pfieffer Hartlett Johnson O'Keeffe

In Carlton vs Collingwood we all know who is more superior recently between them.

Collingwood easily. Carlton have 6 players, Collingwood have 22
that many? they only have Judd, Stevens, Fevola and Murphy.

That is an excellent post. An opposition supporter with a well balanced post about Collingwood? That's not supposed to happen on BigFooty!!! Shame on you!!!

Carlton are, but there not legitimate. Even if they win a flag it will be looked on as a cheated premiership.
