I just don't see Scooter as a captain,
Doesn't speak like a captain and doesn't seem the sort of guy who'll pull a kid aside at training and give him a footy/life lesson,
Not because he comes off as a bad bloke,
I just don't see that sort of leadership or media saavy side to him.

I always think of these things in a desperate situation where a captain might need to think on his feet, maybe like a Cousins type saga.

Glassy could stand in a room full of media, even in his early days and speak from the heart but say the right things. Not sure Scooter has the nous for that.

I really like Kennedy for the job

I think you're selling Scotty short there.

He would grow into the role. Not every captain has to follow the exact blueprint. The captain doesnt have to be the most brilliant player (ala Judd, Ablett, Goodes, Pav) but does have to stand up when others arent and take the rest of the team with him. Public speaking is something they will learn with time. They can't be too shy around the players though.

Kennedy, NicNat, Scooter, Cox (too late), Glass, McKenzie are the stand outs. Masten and Shuey were captains in junior days but not necessarily leadership material currently for some reason.

Jack Darling as Captain would be good.
I buggered your sister when I was 17 in that tent, and now I will bugger you.

West Coast has a history with Captains being defenders.

As the 2013 sponsor for Mitch Brown, your username pleases me.

The captaincy of the Eagles for 2014 is under consideration as Darren Glass is contracted for this season only under a one-year extension that he deliberated over late in 2013. Glass has stated he is prepared to step down if it is best for the club's future but he is so revered by the playing group that if they were asked to vote, he would probably be returned as skipper. Scott Selwood looms as the long-term replacement and has been groomed over the last couple of years but new coach Adam Simpson is keen to explore all options. If it's not Selwood, the next captain could well be Josh Kennedy. A natural leader, Kennedy is 26 and will be a pillar of the Eagles' forward line for a number of years to come. Matt Priddis is another well-respected leader at the Eagles but at 28 he won't have the longevity of either Selwood or Kennedy.

Thoughts? Interesting that the article states the captaincy is still under consideration. I'm a fan of handing over the captaincy before retirement, which I guess means that we should have a new captain for 2014.

Scooter, if he is an effective communicator.

Now with the number of runners on the field being halved, it would be beneficial to have your captain where the majority of play is taking place, so around the contest.

That being said, we do have a leadership group and I think it will become more and more important, that members are chosen for their ability to both remember, intuit and communicate tactical changes or instructions. Which is another reason why I am happy about Simpson's focus on player education...

I'd love glassy to be around for at least a year to help the next captain into the role. If this is glass' last season, i think he should pass it on so he can help ease the transition for the new leader.

Luke Shuey if he has a season where he leads from the front in regard to performance (he is due to explode in 2014) is the only real option IMO but he needs to stamp out his undiciplined on field behaviour. After that I think it would have to be JK by default.

Nah, he doesn't seem like a real leader, just because his a good player doesn't mean he should take up the Captaincy role. It needs to go to a genuine leader, Kennedy looks the type, Waters would of been alright if he wasn't so injury probe. Cox miss his chance but he would of made a great captain, Hurn would do alright.

Reckon its a toss up between Kennedy and Hurn.

If Waters can get over his injuries than him, for sure. I mean some of the things he does are just ruthlessly inspirational. Its a ''I'm gunna die for this team now everyone CHARRRRRRRRRRGE!". IMO toughest player in the AFL along with Geelong's Selwood brutha. Also reminds me of when Woosha patrolled the backline, any messing around from an opposition player and he will look for them. He just creates uneasiness.

JK's chase and tackle when all around him was turning to the nastiest, dirtiest, diarrhoea I can remember sealed it for me. Keep the invisible one in the chair until he steps down gracefully and then hand the mantle to the President.

I like Beau but I feel he is only one more "setback" from retirement. On this count, let's hope I'm wrong.
