Now that the season is over i think it is time we discuss who we will pick with our draft picks.

For all people who do not know much about the draft which im also included in that category to give you a bit of insight it is like the 2005 draft where there is only about 5 superstars and 25 good players.

Richmond are likely to pick between 3 -4 players and this is who i think we will pick

Round 1 pick 2: Cale Morton Wingman/Utility - 192cm 75kgs - Claremont

comments: I think if we pick up mitch morton then cale should look a certainty to pick up.

Other players we could pick up: Cotchin, Palmer Masten

Priority pick: Tom Bellchambers - Ruckman - 199cm 91kgs - Tasmania

Comments: if we dont pick up any ruckman through trade, then it will be likely for us to pick bellchambers if hes still around at that pick.

Round 2: Will be traded if not then maybe one of Motlop, Tarrant, Pears or simpson

Round 3: Al Neville Midfield/Defender Coburg

Comments probably are last pick plays the taller Jake King role in the mold of Firrito.

Who do you guys think we will pick?

Here is my options
Retired
Hall, Gaspar, Kingsley and Hall

Delist
Hartigan, Meyer and Kraq (but if his trial turns bad) - Or trade for picks to free up a space on the list.

Add to the list
King and Howat and if Kraq goes then add Graham (rookie if Kraq stays)

Therefor we remove 6/7 and add 2/3 leaving us with a base line of 4 picks and 2/3 rookies (4 if Bowden stays on the primary list)

Up for trade would be Hyde, Schulz, Kraq, Meyer, Jackson, Moore, JON, Tiva
If we can't get a good deal keep them listed except Meyer and maybe Kraq

Say we have our 1st 4 picks and obtained maybe a second rounder in a trade then we should go

Pick 2 - Cotchin or Morton
Pick 18 and 19 and Additional 2nd rounder- 3 of Selwood (i think geelong may take him with pick 17), Meyers(will be gone though), Pears, Bellchambers, Veszpremi, Maric, Tom Collier, Putt, Simpson, Arrowsmith or Farmer or Gaertner
-
3rd rounder -Putt or Simpson or Arrowsmith or Farmer or Gaertner or Tarrant or Daniel Noy
If we use a later pick then maybe take a chance on Nevill, Gazzo or Shelton from Coburg

Daniel Jackson will stay. I see that he played some decent footy in the last half of the year.

IMO our post season shoping list looks as follows:

- 2 ruckman, Knobel and Hall retired, leaving us Simmonds who still has that blood clot trouble, Pattison and Graham

- 2 194cm+ fowards, or an outstanding tall backman that falls through

- 1 inside mid

Therfore I think we need to look at picking up 1 ruckman in the PSD and 1 in the draft, Bellchambers would be nice. We need to draft a tall full foward to replace Richo in 2-3 years. And a tall backman or foward who can be develop into a backman who can develop into the gurilla taker.

Neville takes the inside mid pick

I think we only need the 1 ruckman. We were so unlucky this year with our rucks. Our main one went down, then our backup, backup went down. Wont be needing 2 more with Simmonds, Pattison, Graham and Polak as their backup.

Our midfield has to improve and to me, thats the most important part of the ground. We probably need another inside midfielder to help Coughlan and Tuck out. Foley does both, but yes, another insider.

Key backman and key forward for obvious reasons.

I think we will waste a pick if we pick up Al Neville.
I would prefer Dean Putt before Bellchambers

i prefer cotchin than morton...

from what we know the morton brothers are hacks....although carle looks a better prospect, i would not want to risk another 'fiora'...

pick 18 -selwood if geelong doesn't pick him up with 17
pick 19- vzepremi
pick35- bellchambers

A little left field, but...

I just read that Mark Blake is out of contract. 22 years old and presumably gutted and angry at Geelong for dropping him for the GF after 22 games.

Might be possible to tempt him away...

He is Geelong born and bred. Hes dad played fo the Cats. Not likely, time to get our own and mould them our way. If Blake came would he be passionate about the Richmonf Football Club !!!

Agreed, but it's not the worst thing that could happen.

As for molding our own, I like the idea, but simply put, we can't. We need another mature ruckman.

Simmonds has to be considered iffy due to injury.
Patto did a magnificent job, but he needs another year or two before he can truly match it in the middle, and while a few games is good for him, getting beaten up by bigger ruckmen every week is probably a bad thing for his development.
Polak isn't a ruckman, he's just a tall guy who can pinch hit
Graham, too young, and don't know if he's got it.

Realistically, I'm thinking draft one, and get another with 3-4 years left who can hold the fort while Patto and the draftee develop and will be OK with a smallish wage and being our 2nd/3rd ruck choice. He'll probably cop it as 'another Knobel', but that's exactly the role we want him for! ( except with fewer injuries ).

Look im not overly sure about anyone past pick 2 however:

2: Cotchin
18: Myers
19: Vespremi
35: Trade for Morton
51: Sampey

Pick 2 cotchin i reckon.
Been tearing it up in his final games with 30 + possesion games. I think we only need 1 ruckman because patto showed too much guts this year standing alone to leave him in the twos. With simmo and patto (polak is too short) and (psd1) we should be set. This leaves polak where he is best suited down back.
Definately selwood next(pending geelong dont snap him up) keep our earlyiest picks we dont want another repeat of trading early picks and missing out.
trade for Mortan if west coast allow if not the rest is a lottery depending on who is left

Who do you guys think we will pick?

Why do you think it will be traded? Huge mistake if we did. Why would we want to trade our pick 19? It is this kind of thing that has got us where we are now. Giving up good picks for so-called good players from other teams. Our R2 pick 19 is a great pick and if we use it right, could land a great young player that is with us for 10-12 years. NO more going for the quick-fix. There is no easy or quick solution to our list problem. We must build it right. Keep and use at least our 1st 4 picks, 2,18,19,35.

GO TIGES!!!

Pick 2 - Trent Cotchin
Pick 18 - Vespresemi
Pick 19 - Scott Selwood.. tayte pearce... rioli....
Pick 35 - Mginnity
Pick 51 - Dangerfield... (doubt will go that hgih but hopefully)

rookie drafted... Matheww Deledio.

i havent to much on Matt Deledio, all i've heard is that is a tuff nut .. not as tall as brett ... anyone else got any details ??

Number 2: Cotchin .. just has to be .. not morton

Cotchin at pick 2 i agree. But if we get brother morton in a west coast trade then it might be worth getting both brothers. Brothers all seem to play better.
We are not going to be in position to win flag in next 3 years, so trade any players that will be retired by then, or not good enough to play in preimership side, for early picks and get a group of good youngsters together.
Cotchin must happen !!!

I also see Cotchin as our ideal pick#2, assuming Keuzer picked up at #1. we would be very lucky to pick vzepremi up at 19 i think as he was rated a top 5 prospect before getting a serious injury. Would love to see Maric picked up around here as watched him kick a bag of goals in TAC Final last year and he is really exciting!:thumbsu: Heard that Richmond scouts watched him duriong the start of the year!!:)
