why do the administration need to wait 48 hours to announce a care taker coach. That means friday with a game the next day. Logically it is harvey so why wait unless harvey does not want the job. Would not be surprised if shaw coaches saturday

maybe harvey wants to officially apply for the position?

it would not be a good way to start your afl coaching career...

I think Harvey is reluctant to step up to the Plate because he knows things could get ugly at the Crows nest on the weekend.

Could Pav step into a Captain/Coach role for this one off game?

Bwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I don't know the answer but the sniff test smells wrong. If i had to guess it is to do with harvey & essendon.

Whacking Harvey straight into the job may make it look like the rumours were correct of him only being brought over here as the coach in waiting. At least it may appear that they're doing a review of who is the best person for the job.

we play the next day with "mathematically" our season on the line. Who cares about appearances

Re: why 48 hours?

Because if they announced Harvey today some people may think that he has white anted Connolly. The club knows it will be Harvey, the players know it will be Harvey, it's all about appearance to the football public.

so harvey is still considering the position? is that the official word?

Word on the Main Board is that Harvey has said he wants 48 hours to decide if he wants to take the position.

If that's true I'd be showing him the door right now and booking him on the first plane out of WA... That's poor, very, very poor... :thumbsd:

It's also a clear indication that, despite what many of the long-term anti-CC brigade choose to believe, Harvey had absolutely nothing to do with the good form we showed last year. Nothing whatsoever, because if it is true, then he obviously doesn't have the balls to have led the side so stunningly in the second half of last season.

That said - this is BF - and it probably came from Embers or Big Cox; both of whom have the credibility of a louse.

Wanted: senior coach for seven games
3:45 PM Wed 18 July, 2007 | Back

By Mic Cullen

Exclusive to AFL BigPond Network

The Dockers trained on Subiaco Oval on Wednesday afternoon while their coach was explaining his resignation to a packed media gallery.

Three days before Saturday’s must-win clash with the Crows, they find themselves leaderless, with the preferred candidate unsure if he wants to take the position.

Both Connolly and CEO Cameron Schwab talked to assistant coach Mark Harvey on Tuesday night about taking the reins for the remainder of the season, but the long-time Essendon assistant and premiership hero has deferred a decision on the position.

"What has happened is Chris spoke to Mark late last night and asked him to step into the role, and I spoke to Mark afterwards," Schwab said.

"Like most things, he's looking at this in the context of his career as well, so he needs to spend time talking to who he needs to speak to, and he may choose not to take it on for the next seven weeks.

"He mightn't think that's necessarily the right thing for his future coaching aspirations. The caretaker coach role in some cases, if you look at a Paul Roos or a Neil Craig, they've been very successful, but there are others who have done it and haven't gone on and coached AFL football.

"He'll get whatever advice over the next 24-48 hours and he'll choose whether he'll take that role or not."

Schwab said the club had contingency plans if their highest profile assistant coach and primary candidate knocked the role back.

"If he chooses not to, we've got an ex-AFL coach as a football manager (Robert Shaw), we've got a caretaker coach on the board in Ben Allen, he's done the role before, and obviously we've got some very capable assistants who could step up.

"So there's probably a plan A, but there's a few Bs and Cs we're considering."

Former Fremantle assistant and now ex-Melbourne coach Neale Daniher wouldn't be approached about the caretaker position, Schwab said.

"No, I'd prefer someone who has a good understanding of the group as it is now, as part of it all, because there is 2007 to be played out, so it would be someone who has a very good understanding of the squad and its strengths and weaknesses as it sits now."

:thumbsd: Not a good look Harvs. You either want a senior coaching position or you don't...

Well not really... to an extent it would show loyalty to Chris Connolly. Also, he has to decide what is best for his career... he might never get another opportunity again, if he takes over freo and they continue to fail.

Further, we do not know what is going on behind the scenes. I am convinced that the Board must 'meddle' with on field decisions. This can only explain why the cycle seems to be continuing.

You see it with successful clubs, like west coast. The boards are clinical and are at arms length. that is why it was easy for them to say of ben cousins that 'they didn't know'. they shouldn't. the coaches should, but the board shouldn't be involved with these kinds of decisions. Freo is too awww but he is a nice bloke with a big heart and a good catholic family give him another game. we even tried to be mates with the afl by taking the hard line with jeff. look where that got us.

although that was apparently a decision made by the player group ie pavlich. who, from what i can establish, isn't the wizards number one fan. pav likes to pass to his friends hase and sham.

Good points I.P. and I also don't understand why Freo are waiting for a answer. If he is not sure then he's no good, sometimes you have to make decisions at that moment under pressure .Imagine in the coaches box when asked warnock for sandi now?hang on let me think.

They could do far worse than give Broadbridge the gig for what's left of the season.

Broadbridge? What the ****? That guy is an absolute, deadset fool. He is the cretin behind "big bodies win clearances".

That would be the worst decision since Caligula appointed his horse to the senate.

Pav for Captain Coach.

Chris called him last and asked him to fill the role, so it certainly wouldn't be betrayal.

The only board member who could possibly have involved himself with onfield affairs is Schwab, and that would have been due to his relationship with Connolly. Harvey (or German, Shaw or Allan) will take no notice of any input provided by Schwab.

All of Perth knew that Ben was on drugs. It's common knowledge that he had too much gear and blacked out at his 21st and he's now 29.

Geelong took a hard line with Steve Johnson, look where it got them.

Belkanor - you naver fail to come up with gem:p .But just think, seriously think how unlikely and flawed Pav as captain coach for a single match would be in the modern day would be.
Do you realise how much time a coach takes to prepare for a single match? plus the added responcibilty as a captain. Too much

He hasnt said if he does or dosent want the gig. FFS don't judge him to this all settles down over a few days.

Absolutely. Calm down. Nobody really knows the true story. and if you were given seconds to decide your whole future I am betting your butt cheeks would twitch too.
