Why are there so many negative threads?

3. One positive thing about a player from another club

1. One positive thing about the game.
Everyone hates Collingwood

2. One positive thing about a team you don't support
Everyone still hates Collingwood

3. One positive thing about a player from another club
All Collingwood supporters hate him

There you go they are the facts to the 3 questions

It truly is US vs ALL.

1. Although the defensive aspect will come back into it somewhat, or so I believe, the style of play at the moment is reminiscent of pre flooding

2. I hope to see no standout team for the season, no one team that looks like they should take all before them. It will take time for the dust to settle, but so far it looks like there are 4 genuine premiership hopefuls. So kudos to all of Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast

3. Gary Ablett Jr is the best player in the competition

I like this thread :thumbsu:

Three very good points, particuarly the first one. Game is so much better when it is higher scoring!

1. I like watching players attacking the ball with full ferocity rather than each other. It's something I used to admire about James Hird. These days more than half the players out there do it. It makes for a good spectacle with plenty of bravery on offer.

2. I greatly respect Collingwood and West Coast's player development programs. Both clubs develop their young talent at an extraordinary rate. I only hope whatever they're doing, we can copy it at the Dogs.

3. Marc Murphy has really taken another step up this year. If he isn't now the 2nd best player in the game (behind Ablett) he'd be damn close.

1. One positive thing about the game.
My club, St Kilda, is still a valued member of the AFL fraternity - even though they have only won the big prize once in 137 years :thumbsu:

2. One positive thing about a team you don't support
I can hate Collingwood and their supporters safe in the knowledge that all of the supporters of the other 16 teams are there right behind me :D

3. One positive thing about a player from another club
Gary Ablett Jr did the right thing and fled Geelong for the big money from Gold Coast. I know, because I saw Ablett's dad there today getting right behind his son.

1. One positive thing about the game.

That many coaches have been smart enough to outsmart the zone press.

2. One positive thing about a team you don't support

Carlton may just be the real deal.

3. One positive thing about a player from another club

Ablett is beyond a freak.

i agree to an extent.

there really should be a GAJ thread that isn't an attack on him.

he is playing some of the best football i have ever seen. they need to change the brownlow system. he deserves all the votes today.

agree with whoever mentioned the umpiring. has been the best opening to a season umpiring wise i can ever remember. not flawless but it never will be.

as for the op, people are much more likely to view and comment on a negative thread. it's the same principle as news articles. the HS isn't going to sell newspapers with a front page headline of "greatest day in melbourne history; no murders, no muggings and no one killed on the road".... it's like listening to people talk about their holidays. you just go on auto pilot when they talk about the good things and generally just smile and nod... but when they start talking about how they lost their passports, got held up at gunpoint, or had the coogee bay hotel staff replace their ice cream with human shit, then you start getting interested....

In bigfooty as in life. Negativity makes a much better headline. No one wants to hear about burgeoning African economies, they want to hear about how kids go to bed without food in their stomachs. We sleep better at night when we know there is someone much worse off than us.

Yup, it really is sad. Instead of just watching this amazing player, people just attack him on here. Same goes for Franklin, for Swan, etc etc. Any great player, a minority on here will go out of their wya to derail any thread pertaining to them. Heck, they dont even have to be great. I could start a thread saying how well Hawkins has been playing lately, and by the second page it will have derailed into a slag fest.

Very sad.

Agree. News is mostly negative. I'd rather read objective commentary which may have a negative slant or contain negativity than "everything's great" perspectives which are contrived or fleeting.

Agree again. Within the confines of the rules, they've just about got the balance right ATM. (1)

(2) Have to admire the way Port has faced up to its considerable problems since late last year and the resolve it's shown so far in working through them.

(3) Franklin. The adulation and obsession from Hawthorn supporters is almost understandable.

1. One positive thing about the game.
Its in great shape and it's being well run.

2. One positive thing about a team you don't support
Gold Coast will be a power house, even though they are getting smashed now, in three years we will be asking how teams can stop them.

3. One positive thing about a player from another club
Trent Cochin is a gun, I love the way he throws himself into packs and his "never give" up attitude

1. Umpiring. Umpires seem less willing to get involved and let the game play. Dropping the ball seems to have disappeared as a rule, which is not a bad thing IMO. Holding the ball seems only to have been given if you have a genuine chance of disposal/had space and time.

2. West Coast, did a number on Melbourne. They're a top four chance even without possibly their best player, or at least most talented for the whole year. How many teams can say that?

3. Lance Franklin. The adulation and obsession from Hawthorn supporters is understandable and completely justified.

By the way, loving the tigger love HAD, although it all goes out the window if we lose next week.

You guys will touch up Melbourne next week. Easily :)

1. One positive thing about the game.
Gotta agree with others, the umpiring in general has been of a much higher standard than the previous few years.

2. One positive thing about a team you don't support
That West Coast have reached a level of professionalism that you see from premiership quality sides; evident in the fact the can bring anyone in to cover for holes left by key injured players with ease.

3. One positive thing about a player from another club
Dahlhaus is a gun and already stepped up a level from last year, could be an absolute star in a short time.

I  Dahlhaus. Such a good little player with a big heart. Just traded out Banfield and bought him in to my SC team. Winning :)

What a warm fuzzy thread.

1 - I'm the first St Kilda supporter to say it but the umpiring this year has been as good as its been for a while. I hope they keep it up because it makes for a better spectacle. The umpires seem to realise they are not bigger than the game and are just letting things play out and only paying the frees that are legitimately there. Yes, there are howlers and missed ones every now and then and we will always have inconsistencies but by and large the umpiring this year has been quite good.

2 - The team I am going to comment on is Essendon. For a while now, I've loved watching them play. Their slick ball movement reminds me of what the Bulldogs used to play like a few years ago when they would just move the ball from one end of the ground with agility and speed and precision. Essendon are at the moment in a good period where you can see the improvement in them and I think coach James Hird has joined at the right time as he'll get to enjoy seeing his players grow and develop and in perhaps one or two years time return to the upper echelon of the league like the good old days at the beginning of the previous decade.

3 - Tom Hawkins, the Justin Koschitzke of the Geelong football club as in everyone (including his own fans sometimes though they secretly hope he will improve and show good form sometime) maligns him for only bobbing up for the odd BOG performance while he never really sets the world on fire. Unfortunately for us, Kosi is past it and never really took the opportunity to reach that A or even B grade and will retire from the game an average to good ordinary player. Hawkins however has taken his chance by the balls and said "I want to be be an A grade footballer" No he's not there yet but his stellar finals season last year has been backed up by a solid start to 2012 and I think by the end of the year, this man will be just about ready to take that step into the very upper class of the AFL.

Positive about the game:
Loving the return of the power forwards and the ongoing drafting of mature aged players

Positive about a club I don't support:
Adelaide have been released and are playing football consistent with the quality players they have

Positive about a player:
Dustin fletcher is the everready bunny - just keeps on keeping on and still plays the game with more stamina than some players 10 years younger than him. Congrats on 350 games and 20 SEASONS

Don't worry about it. Remember basic mathematics? Negative + negative = positive.

While we're on, or near, the subject of electricity, I love AC/DC and the bagpipes in "It's a Long Way..." Can't think of any other great rock track featuring that ever-so-endearing instrument.

HAD start of year: positive about everything that looks promising
HAD end of year: negative about everything that even slightly under-delivered.
Rinse and repeat.

Just like Mike Sheahan.

Every thread I am in, you are there taking a cheapshot. It's getting tiresome. Keep on topic please.

1. That the game is still 'tough' without being thuggish (which some people seem to want). If you want evidence of the game being tough, look at the Lewis-Harbrow, Selwood-Ray, Selwood-Whitecross, Adams-Waters, Brown-McPharlin and the Brown-a pack of players incidents. All the first named players took a big hit while chasing/going for the ball, and some got back up, and none of the latter got suspended (I'm pretty sure). Some things are a bit over the top in terms of free kicks/suspensions, but there is no need to return to the 'good old days'

2) Port Adelaide are a very resilient club, both in terms of players, staff, and fans. There was all stuff last year, infighting, financial stuff, players meant to be leaving, only 4 wins or something...and they lost 2 senior players who were going to retire anyway, they got 2 players in trades, and picked up another former player in the rookie draft. There membership is up, and they are 1-1, conceding only 21 more points then they have kicked, despite playing 2 2011 top 8 sides.
They have also been without Robbie Gray, John Butcher, and their 2 first choice ruckmen. They are playing with considerable enthusiasm and are competitive. For a top side, they will still be easybeats, but they won't be easy beats for the teams 6th and down I think.

3) Nick Riewoldt has so far bounced back in fine style. Will be interesting to see how he goes against the sides that employ a really good press (West Coast, Collingwood) but so far he has bounced back from the season from hell, with his old athleticism and ability. Would be great to see him in the AA squad at least, would prove a lot of people (including himself) wrong. Hopefully his form against 2 lesser sides in round 1 & 2 continues against the better sides.
