Did anyone here have a choice?

Our are we all just poor souls born into the club?:D

For me i don't remember having a choice actually. Been a member since i was 3 years old, been going to the football for longer then i remember.

How about you guys?

I had a choice - and I stick to it. Robbie Flower had something to do with it.

No choice. Was put in a red and (royal) blue jumper before I was old enough to know any different.

The great man G Lyon arrived and there was no changing from then on.

Well in my early days i was a Collingwood supporter both my parents and 1 of my sisters where Collingwood supporters as well.

But they said one day i just turned around and said i dont want to go for Collingwood no more i want to go for Melbourne and that was that.

Cant remember what year i changed must have been between 87 and 89 cause i know i wasnt a Collingwood supporter in 1990.

Well funnily enough my Dad was a Collingwood supporter until 1981 when he converted to the demons (i have no idea why he did considering that was our worst season in our 150 year history, the Barassi return might have had something to do with it), so luckily he changed or i would be here posting as a filth supporter under rocca=legend or something....

*shudder*

Having immigrated to Aus from the UK when I was 6, there was no family ties to any club.

My love of the Dees started in grade 1 when I noticed a kid had a really 'cool' Dees backpack (with the old 80s-style Demon emblem....priceless) and I decided I would go for them too.

And despite not yet experiencing a premiership, I love being a Demons supporter.

Up until the age of 5, I was a Hawthorn Supporter - used to wear no23 on the back of my duffle coat, ha..

Then thankfully my uncle convinced me that Melbourne was the way forward, Ive had nothing but heartbreak since, but I wouldnt change a thing..

Go Dees..

My first toy, fresh out of the womb was a 'demon doll' - a demon mascot holding a footy. Dad also converted mum from a 'footy's too rough, a thugs game' lady who would say St.Kilda as her team to a 'when's the footy on' Dee's supporter.

Love the Dee's, I always liked the Hawks and the Kanga's 2nd so don't know who I'd have chosen as a kid.

First Fav player = Stynes

Ahh, everyone has a similar story to me, been a member since I was born, pretty much came out of the womb wearing red and blue.

I said I supported collingwood adelaide for about a week when I was 5 or so, but thank god dad yelled at me until I said I'd change back.

I'd have to credit Stephen Tingay as the reason I love the club so much, when I was younger he was pretty much what I wanted to be, he was so cool :thumbsu:

Barracked for Essendon till i was 6. My parents were both Melbourne supporters and started taking me to a heap of games when I started playing footy. That was 87 and I remember going to the 87 prelim with my old man as a bomber and leaving a Demon. Never looked back since. Tough at times but wouldnt change a thing

My dad has been a member for 41 years now and has been taking me to the games since i was about 7( this will be my tenth year as a member)

my uncle used to take me to all the st kilda games when i was about 6 and tried to make me a sainter but it never eventuated.

Proud to be a demon supporter.

Scary to think that ive been a member for 10 years and feel like so frustrated with the club at times and to think my old man has been a member for over 40 years AND IS STILL YET TO SEE A FLAG!

I was the only one in my family to go for them, and I only went for them because I loved the red and blue, and I have brain washed my neice and nephew the last 3 years buying them a membership as well

Lucky they're not your kids or you would have had them taken away for cruelty.

I was an Essendon fan until I was five or six. My Grandpa who Is a Dees fan was mates with Hassa Man and took me to a Melbourne V Essendon game, Hassa let have a look In the rooms and meet a couple of players. I arrived as an Essendon Supporter and left a Melbourne die hard.. The rest Is history

My loal football club in country SA has followed the same design guernsey, emblem and song all my life & their life...I guess it just stuck! Also I like to be different, rather than barrack for the Crows or Power over here. Just AAMI Stadium games are a bit embarrassing but I'm still there every game in the red & blue. I'm there at the 'G' every Queens Birthday clash as well!

my whole family barracks for Melbourne so I didn't have much choice, having said that I wouldn't have it any other way. My first favourite player that i can remember was Jeff Farmer.

I was a sore loser as a kid and as a result jumped around a bit from team to team after a bad loss. Was placed in a Collingwood jumper pretty much as soon as I was born, but as soon as I had the ability to think for myself ditched that. Was convinced to follow Richmond by my auntie, but their lack of success lead me to switch in around '87 as a 6 year old. Pretty sure I followed West Coast, Fitzroy and Sydney at some stage that year before settling on Melbourne after the '87 final against North. Probably would have jumped ship again if they'd have lost to Sydney the next week, but must have figured I was on to a good thing as they won by around 100 points and haven't changed since.
