Why did we recruit Bryan?

This is an easy question to answer.

Bryan is a better overall ruckman than Richards, and he cost us nothing. :)

On the point of Alan Toovey, if the reports from the game a couple of weeks back where he supposedly ran 22 kms in the game are true, he has the potential to be an elite tagger.
He ran 22km- wow, lets recruit some of those Kenyan marathon runners, Steve Monaghetti or Craig Motram.

Some of you guys are incredibly naive. Running 22km means nothing at all.

Toovey - looks like a quality tagger. What he lacks in skill he makes up for in stamina. Will stay.

Nicholls - will probably go but he's only a rookie anyway so it does not free up a spot

Davies - unlikely to be retained but playing well in the VFL

Maxwell - will not go when our three key defenders are nearing retirement age. Leader around the club. Will stay.

Bryan - spare parts player, will only go if he can be replaced by a senior ruck who is better. Probably stay.

Wakelin - will retire

So of your list I reckon only two of them will go, plus one who is a rookie.

I still think I'd be giving Ben Reid regular ruck lessons to see if he takes to the position. Once he bulks up, it should be a skill that he possesses.

I guess you hated Ben Johnson too, in his early few years.
And Rhyce Shaw
Dane Swan

etc etc

None could kick and all would lose their opponents, go to ground at vital times, and turn it over at regular intervals.

i ran in a half marathorn ages back, nearly died, but came 698th out of a lot of people, too bad i couldnt move for 3 days, so yea but toovey running 22k has nothing to do with his football skill hand the fact he turns it over more times then kicking it to a teammate

Aaron Davey's the type of player who can destroy teams. Toovey kept him quiet until he was forced into defence where he was beaten by Robertson, who is a dead-set gun.

thats because Toovey is an AFL class tagger/small defender not full back his job on Davey was fantastic, and should be appaluaded for it. and 22km is a fair ####en effort this good will make it im sure.

With Davies, Nicholls and Toovey you're basing your judgement around ten senior games. Regardless of whether these guys are going to last or not they have enough spark to warrant the opportunity to grow into a role. They are all young skinny kids.

We're not shooting for a grand final this year. We're shooting for a top 4 position next year. Quality players don't magically appear at a club. They are slowly developed. Be a little more patient.

No, actually always had confidence in those three.

Obviously you're usually a wise judge then.

Toovey's in the same boat as them at this stage of his career - strong, young, tall enough, not slow, huge engine, but will skill and decision making problems.

Whether or not he will make it is anybody guess but its way to early to write him off. He's doing the job MM's given him, and doing it well, for a 6 gamer.

Maxy isn't going anywhere, Tooves will be a good player, his still raw but has the body size and tank to play midfield. Persist with him, he will be another dane swan.

I dont think anyone can Judge a player that has played the amount of games Toovey has played, can you imagine how nervous he would have been, he is not going to peak in form in the first few matches, give him time, as long as MM keeps playing him, he will be a great player.

The players that I have seen enough of to suggest to me that they have no future at the Collingwood football club are:
Toovey, Nicholls, Davies, Bryan, Maxwell and I think Wakelin might be finished after a great career.

I have no problems with any of our other players. I will defend players like Egan, Cloke and O'Bree all day every day. I just have no time for players I can't see helping us get a premiership.
i agree with you on all but maxwell, with clement and presti in the side he becomes very handy. can play at either end. i assure you he would get picked up in a second if we delisted him. he is no worse than duds like ted richards and dempster.

why wouldn't we recruit Bryan i think he has shown a fair bit so far this year, has heart and size and deifinetely knows how to throw his body around. don't qiote think he's up to the level of dominating the hitouts but his presence up forward would be greatly appreciated by rocca and co, he demands a big body defender to go to him and when you have travy rocca and bryan all in the 50, one of them is more than likely going to have a mismatch. he is definetely a handy player to have in our side, so before anyone rights him off just consider that he too has only played a couple games for collingwood and only a handful more for carlton, so don't judge him before he gets 20 or 30 games under his belt for the pies.
if there's one player we should be getting anxious about its chris egan, he seriously needs to get into gear because i for one are quickly losing confidence in the top ten draft pick

Because you didn't believe us that he is a lazy footballer and that he only performs well in his first game for the club, and then goes missing?

A bit like you got Cloke because you didn't believe us that his shoulders were bad and/or you had Dr. Nick as your club doctor.
