Last year we threw away an absolute golden opportunity at a Grand Final and possibly a flag.

Some people seemed satisfied with our finish, seemingly expecting that a flag was inevitably coming. I think a lot of people on here seriously did not understand how hard it is to even get that opportunity.

I know those same people are saying that we're only three games into the season, but three games in we are yet to play a good game. Three opportunities to show the improvement on last year and on three occasions we have looked, frankly, ordinary.

We have looked no different to 2010 & 2011. The same issues have cost us time and time again.

Tonight we had Port by the throat and WE were the ones that ended up choking. This is not acceptable for a supposed premiership contender.

We had a chance and we threw it away. I hope this highlights for some just how precious that chance was.

Losing that preliminary final was going to hurt us in 2013. Simple as that. This is why I had doubts this year as I'm comparing this year to 2007 after 2006.

All you have to do is watch Tex getting absolutely r*ped by the best 1 and sometimes 2 defenders. Anyone that thinks Tippet was replacable was kidding themselves.

When Sydney get Tippet in the side they will be almost unstoppable, they are my tip for the Flag.

I'm not a big fan of comparing teams or years but I'm getting this feel, 2013 for the crows will be like Geelong's 2006 drop off.

Hopefully out on field leaders eyeball a few players and demand they make appropriate changes to preparation, training and attitude.

I'm nit suing we will emulate Geelong and win multiple premierships.

if by "threw away" you mean played hard, tough footy, executed well and fought to the end only to lose to a very very good side, then yeah we threw it away:rolleyes:.

the rest i agree with, but i'd have been inclined to call it something else.

We finished 2nd, earned a home final with the chance to turn that into a home prelim....we then dished up 5.12........we threw it away.

I agree with the sentiment of the OP, in that we missed a big opportunity last year, but I disagree that we "threw it away". We didn't choose to lose to Hawthorn, and if the umpiring had been half decent, we would have made the GF. We had the opportunity, and gave it a bloody good crack, but couldn't come away with the win.

That doesn't mean we should be satisfied with it; it doesn't make it hurt any less; but to suggest the club threw it away is ridiculous. Four clubs had that same opportunity, but only two can ever capitalise on it.

Each subsequent one we fail to capitalise on though, makes each one more painful. 2012 is now in the same basket as 05 and 06, as shots at the big prize which went begging.

I agree with the general premise of the thread.

Opportunities are fleeting and the "we'll be even better next year" mentality has been shown to be wrong in 2007 and 2010. Got to take your chances.

You only move forward the following season if you improve your squad or have a whole bunch of youngsters. We didn't improve our squad (in fact got worse) and for years have only sparingly played youngsters.

My anger for trigg grows. Needed something for tippett.

Draft picks will hurt for years.

I think we are fine in the smalls dept. Its the big blokes that we miss. Davis tipp gunston bock
Don't agree. We have too many slow mids.

We don't have any quick small forwards that are any good. We've got one in Petreno but because he isn't a natural forward he keeps his spot by applying pressure.

Laird and Brown could be good small defenders with time.

Desperately need pace.

It's more than that. He basically ****ed up our whole trade period. We were so distracted we did nothing else and we wasted a PSD on redrafting a player who is playing SANFL reserves

After that Preliminary final last year I sat there motionless for 6 hours and thinking about to myself was this our best chance for years gone begging. They put up so might fight and effort last year in that game and the body language after that loss was complete despair and that it was going to be too much effort for them to repeat that feat in 2013. Its going to be a long, painful wait I think before we get another chance.

I'm furious at Trigg as well, but the bit at the end there is not true. We were never going to take a pick into the PSD. We only did so because we were not able to balance the books on our squad in time.

Joyce's continued placing on our list was decided upon long before the Tippett saga blew up.

The other comments however are on the money.

Could've got the Brisbane deal done - he should be sacked for kyboshing that, know what his agreement was the following year.

Should've got Toumpas or similar for Tippett. So w threw that away, plus the ones we had taken off of us.
