Will Adelaide Oval attendances be disappointing?

I mentioned in another thread recently that Bayern Munich only offer season tickets to previous holders who attended each match. If they miss a certain number of games they miss out on the next allocation.
This will only work if there are more people than seats available.

Announced today that there was a crowd of 47,000 at Adelaide Oval today. As it was sold out (apart for a couple of hundred seats that were apparently released at the last moment), and considering the occasion, I would consider this being the best we can expect to our home games. Perhaps the next showdown will come close. As the weather deteriorates, our performances continue to lag and the gloss wears off the oval, our crowds will get smaller. I would not be surprised if there ends up being no difference between the AAMI and the Adelaide Oval crowd figures. Basically, going to the football is just one of the things that people can do at any one time. If something more important comes along then people won't go. I know it's still early days, but I think the new oval, in itself, will not be enough to attract members to attend.

Commentator reckons a crowd of 52,000...

That was odd, if the Showdown with 2 local teams got to 50,000 I don't think how ADL v SYD was going to beat that. A bit like the 'sold out' cries, right before the, or you can still by an 11 game membership. One suspects if you are still hawking season tickets it's not really a sell out and maybe the club should release those for 1 off games.

1st game at AO was going to be large, 47300 odd i think it ended at, but we are shit to watch at the moment so certainly no surprises at the final figure.

12.40pm game on Easter Sunday against GWS (who are a show) will be a test next time out. That could be as low as 40,000

United have 52,000 season ticket holders, leaving around 20,000 tickets available.

As Drugs mentioned, season ticket prices are incredibly expensive. Between £532-£950 a season, which is way above our prices. The minimum price is higher than our highest prices, which is around $700.

Full summary here of all the EPL clubs, from 2012. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/may/22/premier-league-season-ticket-prices

That is still a high proportion of season tickets. Seemingly it seems as simple as that the season ticket holders value it more.

Not sure where the 5000 empty seats were. Must have been top of the Riverbank as from where I sat Eastern, Western & the Hill were packed.

Lots of empty seats in the Riverbank stand. Big blocks of seats too. Presumably these were the seats we held back for new memberships and offered for sale at the last minute.

Yes, there seemed to be a lot of empty seats in the Riverbank Stand, but also a few in the Eastern Stand too.

Atrendances will be ok. I find myself with a quietish day today and actually considered going to crows today and may have if there were tickets and the mrs hadnt set me to work.... I dislike both sides... and would never have considered going to aami. .. but this is adelaide oval.

I felt the same way. Never had the urge to go to a neutral game at aami.

The club is targeting a 42000 average, when you look at the low drawing games we have in the first half of the year that seems pretty reasonable, I am hoping we get back to mid '00s levels with a handful of 45+ crowds. I don't think we will see 50,000 unless we are in good form late in the year and heading towards top 4.

I guess the Showdown could get there if both teams are playing well.

Was a bit disappointed at not getting closer to 50,000 but this 47,426 was 10,000 higher than the same game last year. We only had 6000 no shows which is a lot better than the last few years.

There was a lot of empty seats in the Riverbank stand (at least 500) & the hill was only about 40 per cent full.

Hopefully we will get 41-44,000 on Easter Sunday and after that we have the better time slots coming up.

Old Trafford fills cos there's lots of people in London.
Ah Manchester isn't in London. Arsenal, Chelsea, Totenham and west ham are based in London. In fact Man United and the Old Trafford stadium is based in the Trafford District of Greater Manchester which has a population of 227, 100. And Manchester sell it out (and most probably would no matter what happens) every second week. Now that's loyalty

You obviously dont get the joke.

I was pleasantly surprised there were nearly 45,000 people at the GWS game on Easter Sunday. As the figure was announced there was spontaneous applause from the crowd, so I was not the only one. The Carlton v Bulldogs game only got 27,000. All in all, considering our position on the ladder, GWS being our opponent and it being Easter Sunday, not a bad effort.

I swear we used to do something like that, but it was more like you'd inform the club that your ticket could be sold and you didn't get anything back for it.

I'd go one step further than the exchange and set up an opt-in system for season tickets/members - i.e. you get an email/sms/alert/phone call each week on the Monday prior to the match, and you nominate whether or not you're going. If not, then you get a credit back for the ticket that you've sold.

The problem and reason why the online ticket exchange couldn't work this year is because ticketmaster and ticketek a computer systems do not work together. The club has come out and said they are looking to have this fixed for next year.

It would almost be odds on that our membership system will go over to ticketek next year as they have the Adelaide Oval contract, and this would fix all the problems.
