Will Essendon regret chosing Myers over Palmer??

There was a lot of hype over who Essendon would pick in the 08 draft out of Rhys Palmer and David Myers.

They needed a good outside mid (Palmer) but a tall back (Myers) would've been handy as Fletcher and Micheal don't have a lot of good footy left IMHO.

They choose Myers and atm it isn't looking as if they made the right choice.

Do you think Essendon will regret taking Myers over Palmer in years to come.

Myers is not a tall back.

Palmer wanted only to play in Perth. Myers wanted to leave Perth to go to a Victorian club. Both clubs did well.

Surely being a Port fan you would have noticed Myers playing as a Half-Back/Ruck Rover type player and not at Fullback last week??

Im happy with the selection. The Kid will be a very good player.

Yer i did see him playing at back flank because that is his positionm who ever said that he was a FB?? I just said he is a tall back, which he is.

He is 190cm which is pretty tall for a back flanker.

You implied that he could be a replacement for Michael or Fletcher.

He won't be, because he is not a key defender. He is a midfielder/half back.

Palmer looks like he will be a very good footballer, but Myers has only played one game so I don't think there's any regret right now.

If anyone can predict the future please give us your insight!

Palmer looks fantastic, but I was very encouraged by Myers performance on the weekend and I think he'll do us proud.

He'll spend plenty of time in the midfield as well as half back as he progresses imho.

This thread is exceedingly early though and pits a guy who hit the ground running against a guy with an interrupted pre-season and as such comes across as simply an attempt to stir trouble.

Nope.

Classy mover that Myers. Uses the ball very well and can unload with a cannon on the left every now and then.

I love Palmer. Loved him pre-draft just coz of the way he attacks the game.

Both clubs got a very good player each.

When you have a midfield which only has 1 player over 25 (McVeigh) you can't afford to give up the chance to get a natural leader like Myers.
Myers gives us a different type of midfielder to what we have currently whereas Palmers role is being done by Houli and Reimers.

Not quite. As this season has shown we have a fair few outside mids in our team but we are really crying out for a tough and gritty insider ala the Joel Selwood type.

Palmer has been great so far but I think we've got enough quicks with average disposal in our side ATM.

Myers will eventually develop into a classy midfielder. Reminds me a lot of Pendlebury just in the way he moves around packs and has great calmness and awareness under pressure.

I'm happy with the pick.

Personally I'd take Myers.

Just because Palmer is a more complete player now, doesn't mean he will be in 5 years.

Myers is a gun.

myers is similar in size to chris judd. he will be a midfielder and one with more class than palmer. don't forget palmer is older also having been eligible for the draft the previous year and being overlooked.

palmer is more your scott burns/jason johnson type - gets it and boots it with average disposal. look at this efficiency rate - a lot of weeks its been around 60%.

myers is more polished - on debut he showed the ability to break tackles and hit targets by foot. his efficiency was 87% - pretty damn good for a debut.
