Maric + Moran worked ok last year. Let Maric, Moran and Sellar develop. Everyone knows not many rucks blow the game apart from their first season.

Poor old Brad Moran. I think he is one we are really missing. Gave us huge boost when he came in last yer.

I'm not convinced that we need to recruit another ruckman... though that might change.

At present we have Maric, Moran, Sellar, McKernan, Craig and Griffin - plus Tippett who is a more than handy ruckman (but an even better FF when not crippled by knee tendonitis). That's 7 players who are capable of playing in the ruck. Seriously, does anyone think we need to add an 8th - meaning that 1/5th of our entire senior list is occupied by players fighting for 1 or 2 positions on the field? That's crazy talk.

Now, it's almost certain that Griffin will be gone at the end of the year. He's out of contract and we've had rumours for the last 2 years that he's been asking to be traded. We've also heard rumours that he's unhappy with the Crows and would rather be playing for Centrals. From what I've heard, we shopped him around last year but nobody was willing to offer us anything worthwhile to take him off our hands (and who could blame them). This year he'll be gone for sure, even if we have to delist him and get nothing in return. I can't see him signing a new contract, even assuming that one were to be offered.

Moran's future may lay with the new GC team, but I doubt it. Frankly, I'm more concerned about his ability to return from his current knee injury. It's now almost 12 months since he last played footy (R13 last year) and there are no signs that his return is imminent. This is a major concern, considering we were originally told that he'd done his PCL (not ACL) and that he would only be missing for 3 months - we're now at 10 months and counting... Will he be able to return, or will the Crows be forced to cut him at the end of the year? There's no shortage of other candidates, so they may choose to carry him on the list for another 12 months anyway.

That leaves us with Maric, Sellar, McKernan and Craig (plus Tippett). Maric has now settled into the role and is doing an admirable job of leading our ruck division. The other three are all youngsters, with Sellar the most experienced at just 13 games (McKernan has 1, Craig 0). They're inexperienced, but they should be able to do the job, carrying the team forwards into the future. Numerically, we still have 4 (5) ruck options - which is more than most of the other team lists.

You are right, of course. Not arguing with any of that ^.

But it does make me cry that none of the usable rucks are even 200cms, except the 2 you discard for obvious reasons. :(

He hates the Adelaide Crows and has said in the past he would never play for us. And that was not like Scott Thompson who said it as a 17 year old; Minson said it as a mature adult.
Interesting terminology - this is the guy who almost poisened himself to death on soy milk, tried bouncing the bll whilst being tackled, and once forgot to take a ruck contest :o

In any case, we have Jordan Roughead as a 19 year old ruck who looks damn good for his age, and Ayce Cordy developing now who has "bulked up" to 94kg (from 77kgs at 202cm!)

This isn't the worst suggestion going around by any means but we'll still need Will for next year until Roughead (yet to debut, although a better than strong chance to play the Crows this weekend) proves he can play 22 games of senior football.

Not entirely true. Moran, Tippett and Griffin are all listed at 200+cm. The problem is that it's the 200cm ruckmen we look like having to discard.

Is it likely that Craig will squeeze out a few more cm? Nic Nat has gone from 198 to 201 as a 19 year old.

Sorry 'could' not 'will'. Not asking anyone to predict the future.

I think Hudson seeked to leave on his own terms.

In other news Minson has just been dropped for tomorrow night's game !

He's a good ruckman who can play in bursts but does not have the fitness to maintain a 4 quarter effort in the ruck. His best is exceptional, some of his taps to Cooney over the years have been very very good. Unfortunately his worst is so low that it isn't even worth talking about. Massive size, very strong and agressive, a little too agressive, does dumb things but is pretty good around the ground and can read the play fairly well I think. Decision making though is his problem. Can go forward and take very strong marks but often spills ones he should take. You never quite know what you are going to get with Will. Was much more suited to the larger centre circle, when he first came in he used to charge in and smash the ball 30m forward, often beating better ruckman.

But would not want him at the crows, he won't get any better than he is now, so pass.

Bad news for Adelaide. Minnow would have been guaranteed to turn the ball over, kick out of bounds near the Adelaide forward 50 or give away 50m penalties based on acting stupid.

Good news for the health and wellbeing of our players though, given his propensity for injuring those who are smaller than him.
