Will Nathan Ablett ever show some emotion?

Nathan Ablett is a Vulcan. To him and all other Vulcans emotions are highly irrational. They do not change the outcome one iota.

I've seen him do the odd celebration before. Round 2 against Carlton after the "Ablett to Ablett to Ablett" goal in the last quarter he gave a bit of the old fist pump.

Of course it doesn't matter whether he does or not, but from a supporters point of view, it's good to see that he's enjoying his footy.

He is quiet and shy so wont show much emotion, however he has come along way. Needs more mongrel in him. That is what will stop him being a great player, snr had it plus when cameras were not on, snr was not near as shy as Nath is.

Would like to see an opposition player rough Nath up when Gary is on the bench so he cant stick up 4 him so i can see how Nath responds. Lacking mongrel and determination and being shy is what had kept him out of the AFL loop, he gets through on his natural ability, but i want more than that. Get angry about something, take an archer pill and he will be an elite player.

Interesting post. Let's not forget his old man was Jnr's age (23) when he really started to fire up, so Nablett has a couple of years to go. I think Tim Watson has hit it on the head though when he says that Nathan looks like a footballer who does not yet believe he is that good, so he is playing (and reacting I suppose) well within himself. Also Nathan did not come through the TAC ranks like most other young players, having come staright from Modewarre, so in footy terms he is a baby still.

His old man, god himslef to some, didnt get angry and mongrel in him until well into his 20's. Te lad will come good - if he is this good now, the future can only be better......

You only need to watch his game against North to show that he is a star in the making. Took some awesome marks, and even when he wasn't marking seems to be able to read the play well. Made some stupid mistakes too (like that certain goal that resulted in a Firrito tackle) but he'll grow out of that. Just imagine a forward line in the future with him, Hawkins and Mooney. Would be awesome to behold.

You have got to be kidding? In seniors first few games he gave a coathanger to Garry Wilson who was trying to shepard. He was born with footy mongrel in him

Agreed he did certain off field things in his younger days 2. He claimed he was a christian (which Nath is also) which mellowed him out at times, trying to be a good person with christian values will do that but snr found his emotions hard to counter at other times both on and off field.

Nathan however is a good christian boy who is shy with good values, it is not in his persona to be aggressive. Has to develop white line fever, when game is over he can be who he is again. Very polite quiet genuinely good bloke.

Actually it was his very first game for Geelong when he belted Wilson.

But the point of the post was showing emotion, which his Dad very rarely, if ever, did.

Nathan's what - 21? Senior was 22 before he played a game for us. He's coming along OK. He doesn't appear to have the raw power and potential of Hawkins, but he still looks quite promising. He could surprise us yet. I'd like to compare his first 30 games to his brother's, there wouldn't be a lot of difference.

Nathan is doing fine by me, he may be simply deferring to most of the players around him in the forward line, as Chappy and Mooney for example are very strong personalities, so on field he will tend to lay off to them, or not show the outright emotion they do. Still, twice now in three weeks he's kicked 3 goals against Port and the Kangaroos, performances against strong top-8 sides that are a great portent for things to come. Nathan is probably only our 3 or 4th forward option, so if he gets 3, Geelong are likely to be doing very well. I'm happy with his output so far, i am sure in years to come, and maybe with the powerful knowledge of being a premiership player (we hope:thumbsu:) that will give him the belief and strength to become anything he wants to be.
