Will Slade

YES! :p

On a more serious note...
I'm not really sure there is room for him *cries*. I WISH so much that he was in the senior team but with our back line full with "top notch" players such as Harley, Scarlett, J.Hunt, D.Johnson, Milburn and Egan it's hard for him to get a spot. As if that isn't enough he is also competing with a similar player, Callan.

I think Will has proved himself to be a good player particually this year (even though I new that back in 2002 ;)). His toughness, courage and passion for the game will hopefully somehow get him a game. Yes, he still does give away silly/stupid/annoying free kicks BUT he has got much better with that. Yes, his kicking isn't superb BUT he is improving. This guy is still young (turns 23 in October) and I think he will have a promising future no matter what club he is with. I just hope Geelong don't give up on him because he IS a good player, he just needs a chance.

How could you not want this guy at Geelong? :p

Just a thought, maybe Will could be played off the interchange to replace someone like Kelly. They could just rotate the backline.

Unfortunately, he will be struggling. I love his courage and attack at the ball, but is just fighting for the one spot with Wojcinski, Callan, Johnson, Hunt and Sheringham to name a few.

I want him to stay, but I believe the list will be getting a bit of a shake up from this review. He will be in firing line.:(

Does he have the speed and skill to rotate through the midfield? Could he be coached for and train for that sort of role? That is our supposed downfall...

I think his finals series could possibly save him for another year. If he makes a couple of mental adjustments to his gamestyle he could well be in our 07 best 22.

I think Will is way ahead of Teddy - Will has played a couple of games in the AFL and will have match-experience behind him. Teddy hasn't showed enough to be promoted, and to stay on our list, he'll have to be promoted to the senior list or be delisted and then re-rookied (like Will was last year).

What's he done this year that makes him a required player? Sweet FA.
Thanks for nothing Slade, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

He's shown courage, heart and determination, which is more than can be said for at least half of this year's list. That includes Josh, Kelly, and the others who are supposed to be top level footballers.

Did you even watch him in the finals? Sure, he gave away too many frees, but that can be improved on. His heart and willingness to go on are good qualities, and he's not that bad a footballer either.

hahaha spare me the garbage. Heart and determination without skills don't earn you a spot i'm afraid. Havent seen him do anything that any other player wouldn't do, so you can stop playing that 'heart and courage' card. I'm eager to hear more about the 'willingness to go on' trait you mentioned though. PLease do explain that one.

You still didn't answer my question - did you watch him in the finals or not? Did you see when he shut down Williamstown's forward line and kept one of their key forwards quiet? Did you know he was named as second BOG in the GF? No, you didn't, did you?

Don't worry, give him 10 minutes and he will begin on his anti-Thompson garbage.

hahahahaha he had a reasonable game against a bunch of hacks who are not up to AFL standard. Just a matter of time before the 5 year contract is shoved under his nose!
Please inform me of what he has delivered in the AFL? Voted second best on ground in a sub standard football league hahahahahaha some fans just don't understand do they.
Good to see you're in a feisty mood today, i'll make note of this date so i don't get you all riled up again at this time of the month in future.

Renegade is 100% right.

We are supposed to be trying to move forward, not backwards.

Promoting Will or any of the other second year rookies is a waste of time. New blood is required.

Sack Lovell and we will jump from 10th to a premiership !!@@!!!@LOLYEQ!!ERERT!!!#@@

Just because they're in the VFL doesn't mean they're a bunch of hacks. Does that mean that players like Tenace, Rooke and Harley who have played in the VFL this year are all hacks? If his game was only REASONABLE as you say, he wouldn't be named among the bests, would he?

Keep the sexist comments coming, you're only showing everyone else what a complete and utter idiot you are. I am NOT being feisty today, do you expect me to sit here and take all this **** you're saying lightly?

No heart and determination with the skills got us nowhere this year too. At least Slade had a dip and looked more interested than some in our 'best 22' in the few games he's played. Sure he's got some flaws, like keeping his elbows on a leash...but a lot of people are willing to cut Mooney some slack for his 4 suspensions this year.

i dont think will's done enough to be honest. yes he played okay during the finals, yes he did a few good things here and there but i think we needed more than that. he's been on our list for a few years, we've been patient waiting for him to get over his injury, we need a bit more in return. and he does give away way too many frees.

So does Steven King but I don't see anyone calling for him to get delisted. FWIW, I think Slade might be worth perservering with. He would be a good backup in case any of the other small defenders goes down with an injury. I'm not expecting him to play all 22 games, win the B&F and win a berth in the AA side.

No it just means that they're not ready to return from injury yet so they get to walk into a lesser level of football and get a bit of touch.

i dont think he will get delisted or traded anyway......sheringham looks to be on the way out unfortunatetly but he could come back to bell park :thumbsu:

slade realistically (barring injury) dosnt really look like becoming a permanent player in our best 22 but if he gets his chance he could take it.

He's got the passion, courage and determination in masses. He's a great kid...it's just whether he can take the next step.

If he goes, he's worth a punt at another club.

He played alright from in the first few matches in 2006...

Agreed. The other thing is, we've all seen the flailing elbows, that's just a matter of experience and maturity. If he were able to settle into a senior role and get rid of the nerves, I think he could potentially be very handy and worth holding on to. Mind you, I haven't seen all his VFL games, so I'm happy to be corrected...

i dont think he is cut out to be an AFL footballer, i could be wrong.

but he tries to bump when he should tackle, he will take a courageous mark and then turn it over the very next time that results in a goal, giving away petty free kicks, etc.

im not sure the cats will draft him, unless it was with their last pick in the national draft or in the PSD.

From what i've seen late in the VFL season, i'd like to think there is a spot on the list for him, even if it's just as depth and stays in the VFL all year.

despite the fact he has a fanatical teeny bopper girly fan base that worships his every action, Slade isn't cut out as an AFL footballer. Yeah he's got guts and determination, but he's reckless, gives away too many needless frees and has no skill on the ball. Tim Callan is the same type of player as Slade; fearless and courageous, but unlike Slade, Callan can actually use the footy properly.
The only thing that might save him is that the club might keep him on the rookie list as a mature player, something which the AFL will introduce for next season. Otherwise rabid little girls everywhere will soon have to find a new pretty boy to dream about...
