Which average supporter can make the link between Etihad and the AFL? Its a poor fit and the sponsorship alliance will most likely fail in the short term... The term "Etihad" doesnt exactly roll off the toung either.

The Dome all the way:thumbsu:

Not quite.

Different connotations for starters. It was the original name (when it opened for business), too.

Colonial is still a sponsor's name. They paid for x amount of years' naming rights same as Telstra, same as Etihad.

If all you're worried about is ease of speech or aural candy, just go 'Docklands'.

I know, I know, but still, it's got perhaps a more 'epic' (for want of a much better word) undertone than Docklands, which is still far better than the Dome, or the current monstrosity.

Yes I will, and btw, surely the company Eithad is far less 'morally offensive' then the rip of and corrupt merchants that is Telstra (unless you have an racist anti-arab agenda)

Telstra's ripped off thousands of decent hard working australians in the past, and as well they have pathetically cut off much needed phone services in rural/regional australia due to cost cutting, whilst their baboon and annoying CEO's (ilke that Ziggy twerp) get paid multi-million dollar salaries whilst these penny pinchers cut off crucial services and have pathetic pay phone public maintence (half the ones in the CBD dont' work when u need them to)

The Etihad company logo is pretty cool as well :D

I object to a Dubai based company sponsoring an Australian stadium with a foreign name. Any problem with that? FTR I don't eat Vegemite, it may be un Australian but I just don't particularly like it (don't hate it, don't love it, would rather eat something else)

And as for the UAE, there are plenty of reasons not to like a country full of rich oil tycoons which denies visas to tennis players based on political reasons. That's just the start really.

But you don't have to agree with me, it's also a stupid name.

I take it then you'll also be boycotting clubs and stadiums with American based sponsors as well for 'moral' reasons (IE illegal and immoral invasion and war in Iraq that has killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people) and basically arrogantly ignoring the Geneva Convention by the use of illegally torturing prisoners (Gitmo Bay)

The UAE banned a female tennis player cause she was from Israel, following the countries bombadment of Gaza, so I don't think you should take the moral high ground there ..

So you think it's cool to deny a tennis player a visa because the country she was born in is involved in a questionable war? What exactly is your moral high ground here - I think that Shahar Peer should be allowed to play tennis because she's a tennis player, not a politician, am I being immoral now? Funny that the WTA, Andy Roddick, Amelie Mauresmo and others agree with me.

i don't understand how the corporate name change of a stadium can be a topic of debate.

Etihad bought the rights to the name, it's no longer referred to as the Telstra Dome. I don't see what the big deal is

was there this much fuss made over Hisense arena when it took over from Vodafone?

Its not that hard to respect the company thats paid for it. I dont care if people dont call it etihad but its riduclous for the media and AFL to call it otherwise.

Who even knows what Hisense Arena is? They play minor tennis games and basketball there. Who cares what it's called, barely anyone goes there anyway.

Not to mention the fact that you're ignoring every reason I'm not calling the Dome by by its sponsored name.

most people call the Stadium's by there offical name.

Why the hell are you to lazy to call Etihad Stadium Etihad Stadium?
