Seedings announced tonight with the biggest interest over who gets #2 out of Roddick and Hewitt. Draw tomorrow at 8:30pm AET

Agassi withdrew overnight, Scott Draper was first alternate but qualifying has begun and he wasn't in it. There's still two wildcards to be handed out so he may get one of them. No luck in qualifying either with Baccanello and Luczak knocked out first round and Guccione going down in the second. Nobody made it into the women's.

The Chinese girls aren't playing because they have their nationals this week

Draw tonight

Men's
Federer, Hewitt, Safin and Davydenko are top 4 seeds in the top half
Roddick, Nadal, Henman, Canas in the bottom half

* Federer starts against Mathieu before a few no names, Kiefer is the seed he could meet in the 3rd round, with Robredo and Ferrero the seeds for the 4th round
* Joachim Johansson and Nikolay Davydenko are the top seeds in the next 8th. Johansson starts against Montanes before Greg Rusedski if he can get past Alberto Martin. Davydenko starts against Scott Draper, with the winner to play Jonas Borkman or a qualifier. Gonzales and Youzhny are the other seeds, Gonzales is in Johansson's group.
* Hewitt has Christophe Rochus first, with Jan Hernych or bogey man James Blake in the 2nd. Massu is the seed in his section, with Dent and Puerta in the next one.
* Safin starts against Srichaphan, with Philippoussis in the 2nd if he can get past Beck. Ancic is the other top 16 seed, with Hrbaty and Lopez the others
* Canas gets a qualifier first up, with the winner of Mirnyi and Schuetler to follow. Jiri Novak, Tommy Haas and Thomas Johansson are the other seeds in this 8th.
* Nadal starts against Spadea, with Schalken and Gasquet a likely 2nd round match to play him in the 3rd. The other top 16 seed, Stepanek, starts against Ginepri with Nalbandian his likely 3rd round opponent
* Henman against Nieminen first up, Wayne Arthurs starts against the seeded Filippo Volandri, with Alexander Popp in the 2nd round. Ferrer and Grosjean are the other seeds in this 8th
* Roddick has Vanek first, with Karlovic second if things go to plan and he can beat a qualifier. Soderling, Ljubicic and Coria are the other seeds.

Women's
* Davenport plays Jidkova in the first round, Clijsters starts against a wildcard. Safina and Sugiyama are the most likely to prevent a 4th round clash between the two.
* Kuznetsova also starts against a wildcard. Stosur has a pretty good draw, with Pastikova first, then Kostanic or the #27 seed I've never heard of, Vaidisova, and Kuznetsova in the 3rd. Schnyder and Asagoe are the seeds in the other half of this 8th.
* Mauresmo plays Suarez round 1. Two of the other seeds in this 8th, Sprem and Likhovtseva also start with former top 16 seeded players - Tanasugarn and Smashnova
* Myskina starts against a qualifier, Dominikovic could meet her in the second round if she can beat Nakamura. Jankovich, Frazier and Dementieva (she's not good enough to get her name in bold even if she is #6) are the other seeds.
* Henin-Hardenne has Daniilidou first, with Mary Pierce the other high seed in this 8th. Penetta and Ivanocic are the others.
* Venus and Serena are in the same 8th, along with Nicole Pratt, Hantuchova, Bartoli and 5 qualifiers. Pratt and Venus is a potential second round match up
* Petrova plays Ruano Pascual in round 1, with Razzano, Schiavone and Zvonareva the other seeds. Michaela Krajicek and Cara Black are also in this group
* Sharapova will play Llagostera Vives first, with a few more players with ridiculously long names up until the 3rd round. Dechy and Golovin are the seeds in line for a 4th round clash, although Panova and Raymond (who play each other round 1) could cause difficulties.

Etch Federer's name into the trophy already...

* Safin starts against Srichaphan, with Philippoussis in the 2nd if he can get past Beck. Ancic is the other top 16 seed, with Hrbaty and Lopez the others

Nasty little section with two sleepers (Srichapan and Poo), the big serving Ancic and the ultra competitive Hrbaty.

Shocking draw with Federer, Hewitt, and Safin in the same half.

Thank God Poo will be eliminated early though. Cya mate, career over.

He is been playing ok on the grass this week, Flip is always a threat on grass, he is not the man Safin would want to be meeting in the 2nd round.

Hewitt whinging again... this time about not being seeded #2
The system takes into account grass court results after the past couple of years where in that time Roddick has been a finalist and won Queens twice. Hewitt's Wimbledon win wasn't in the past two years nor his successes at Queen's he should have no complaints.

I've never understood why they go through the trouble of deciding seedings and then create a draw in which the seedings aren't balanced in each half...

You've got the 1st, 3rd, 5th & 8th seeds in one half if the men's draw and the 2nd, 4th, 6th & 7th in the other.

Surely you'd make it 1st, 4th, 5th & 8th in the top half and the rest in the other half

Anyways, barring injury, Roddick will make the final. Guaranteed.

How's Joachim Johansson's form been lately? Once again he's looks like a dark horse in the tournament.

Exactly.

Pimpim missed the French Open with injury, but I agree - he's a good outside bet. I think he's paying $61. Thomas Johansson at $81 is good value as well.
But for tipping a winner, I'll tip Roddick in the mens and Davenport in the womens.

While I always look forward to the Championships, there's a sense of inevitabilty about the men's singles - Federer is unbeatable on the grass. Looking at the draw, I think his toughest match may be Davydenko in the quarters - I don't think Hewitt can go that far on his preparation and might not get past Dent and definitely won't get past Ancic, who I think will make the semis. In the other half, I can see Gasquet potentially getting to the semis in the weakest quarter of the draw, but Roddick will almost certainly be the finalist, ending Henmania in the quarters again.

The women's draw is tougher to predict, I can't see Davenport winning, she has tough tests in Safina (3rd) and Clijsters (4th) to get past, and I think she'll go down to Kimmy. The two best players in the tournament are in the second quarter (Henin-Hardenne and S.Williams) and the winner of their likley quarter-final will probably win the tournament. Mauresmo has an easy draw but will inevitably stuff it up, Farina Elia may be her greatest challenge. Sharapova may go all the way again and also has an easy draw.

Finals: Federer def. Roddick in 4 sets, Henin-Hardenne ddef. Sharapova in 2 sets.
Best outsiders: Richard Gasquet and Jelena Jankovic

Whilst all that sounds good in theory...You've failed to recognise the fact that Daveydenko has never won a match on grass and is no chance to make the quarters despite looking like cruising past draper who has his mind on golf.

Davenport beat clijsters in the French and i think she has a much better chance at wimbledon due to her game lending itself to short points and therefore less exertion on her legs.

You've just predicted the exact same final scoreline in the mens and inserted henin in your womans prediction from last year.

FWIW i think Safin has the attitude this year to go far.

Joachim Johannson, Safin, Roddick, Federer to battle it out.

Most results as expected on day 1. Patty Schnyder and Mariano Puerta the only (I think) seeds knocked out.

Hewitt and Scud through in straight sets, Draper, Stosur and Dominikovic all beaten. Arthurs and Pratt play tonight

A few other results...
Rusedski won in 4
Bjorkman in 5 over Morrison
Lopez in 5 over Phau
Dent in 5 over ******** Norman
Joachim in 3 over Montanes
Kiefer in 5 over Benneteau
Sfar 9-7 in the 3rd over Loit

1. Tell me where Davydenko was ranked this time last year - he's a vastly improved player and should at least make the fourth round, where he'll likely meet J.Johansson. Whoever wins that match will provide Federer's toughest test.

2. Davenport will never win another grand slam - she doesn't have the stamina to go through seven matches. Semis at best again.

3. Federer and Roddick are clearly the two best men on grass and will fight it out again. Federer doesn't lose finals, Roddick may take a set in a tie-break but will be lucky to get it. So what if it's the same as last year?

Pleasantly surprised at the Scud's win, Fiery Fred said last night he didn't think he'd beat Beck - if there is a high-ranking player he can beat, it might be Safin. But I don't think he will.

Going for an upset in the women's, with Ana Ivanovic. She is probably in the toughest quarter (with Henin-Hadienne), but her improvement over the last 6 months is nothing short of extrordinary. Also she has played well on grass previously, albeit in junior competitions, but she is comfortable on grass.

Stosur out in straight sets probably not much of a suprise after the unneccessary pressure that that moron JA put on her.

Top half of the men's draw definetly looks a lot tougher. Grosjean in the bottom half of the draw could possibly be a suprise, always seems to play well at Wimbledon. Provided he can get past Llodra in the first round whose game is probably best suited to grass.
