So I assume he went into the game under an injury cloud? Why then did he play? Hinge has been great in his past two games for Glenelg and if Porpy wasn’t fit Hinge should have taken his place. Porpy was very poor today, obviously due to the injury, so the bottom line is he should have been rested.

I was mystified by this one.

Absolutely mystified.

Porplyzia could barely run today so he was obviously carrying injury IMO. Got outsprinted to the ball many times, which is not normally the case.

With the way we are going with injuries, Hinge might well get a game next week.

Porps did it during the first quarter I was pretty sure macca as he was moving nromally when he first came on and then towards the end of the quarter I noticed that he really was struggling. I highly doubt that he started the game with the injury - he also was moving ok during the warm up as well from memory.

Fair enough.

It was really only from the 2nd quarter onwards that I picked up that he couldn't outrun a galloping snail.

Ahh I love fox active games where I watch the huddle at quarter time and in the rooms at half time. Was very clear that the medical staff were working on porps ankle

Didn't think Porps looked right. He wasn't too bad in the last 1/4 from memory. As for the previous 3 though.

Might be sooner than we think. ;)

Ch 9 was tipping tonight that with Welsh out of the team with an injured thigh that his place would be taken by Kenny Mac.

Could it be shades of "Well, well, well, well" in more ways than one?? :)

 Sorry but no ......but good attempt ;)

Injury ridden, Welsh out, some players carrying injuries into the game and Kenny can't force his way in .....

Yes I know he's underdone but gee we were pretty desperate

Adelaide midfielder Brent Reilly is expected to miss only one or two games with his ankle strain.

And Jason Porplyzia’s knee strain is also expected to keep him out of Saturday night’s clash with Collingwood at AAMI Stadium.

Matthew Bode (knee) also will not be considered this week and upgraded rookie Andrew McIntyre’s ankle strain will keep him out for about five weeks.

But forward Scott Welsh (quad) trained well on Monday morning and should be cleared to join the main training session on Wednesday night.

Reilly’s ankle improved dramatically with constant treatment since Sunday’s game against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval.

Three Crows came off the injury list last week. Darren Pfeiffer (fractured cheekbone) and Ivan Maric (hip) played in the SANFL while Ken McGregor (Achilles) went to Perth as an emergency.

2006 draftee Nick Gill (hamstring) is also ready to start training with the main group and rookie-listed Rhys Archard (hamstring) will also return to full training.

RL - Gill was training hard and working his hamstring out quite well last wednesday, so he may play this weekend for North, or next weekend if they are being conservative.

Sorry to be a pain, but I wanted to ask your opinion on how far Maric might be away from playing for the Crows.

It's a question related to my fantasy footy strategy.

Thanks for being honest about your intentions behind the question, many people aren't so up front about it.

Maric played half a game in the SANFL reserves last week. This week he is expected to return to the SANFL seniors.

After that, it is up to him to justify promotion ahead of Jonathon Griffin - who has been doing a good job in the 5 games he has played this year. Selection will be based on their respective performances, so it would be difficult for any of us to say what his chances are (other than saying that possession is nine tenths of the law).

Hope this helps.

Not sure he has to justify... to a certain extent yes, but the man managemet of Griffin would lend itself , or should, a rest period about round 9-12...thats where Maric will be handy

I have just relocated to London and have been catching up on all the injury news - it took a while.

For mine the following players' injuries have clearly been unavoidable by the club:

1) Meesen
2) Henstchel
3) Biglands
4) Reilly
5) Johncock
6) Pfeiffer
7) Shirley

I am sure this point has been raised before, but the following players' injuries raise serious questions about our training program, and the extent to which that has contributed to those injuries:

1) Porps
2) Burton
3) Welsh (although he is always injured so may just be butter soft)
4) Gill (what a disasterous pick to date - I have questions about the medical due diligence undertaken in picking this guy)
5) McGregor
6) Bode

Plus Goodwin, Torney, Rutten and Edwards all battling to train and play on a semi-regular basis.

I dont really have much an idea of Maric or Roos' injuries so have excluded them from both lists.

Neil Craig has somewhat of a "can do no wrong" status in Adelaide it seems, and doesnt like to acknowledge or consider acknowledging that our training methods possibly cost us a premiership last year and is having a negative effect on premiership campaign this year.

I would like some more accountability from Neil, good coach that he is, I reckon this is an area that he has erred significantly in. I cant see the harm, with the bag loads of money that AFC has, in getting a third party expert in to assess if the Crows training methods have contributed to these injures or whether it really is just "bad luck" as they are having us believe.

If Gary Ayres was overseeing such an array of injuries, supporters would be kicking up more of a stink on this issue - OT - it is worth noting that Gary Ayres has taken AFC just as far as Neil Craig has - a preliminary final.

Thoughts people?

While I have the same concerns I am also not overly concerned....yet

I also would like to see some sort of '' yes we may have to look at it but not just yet'' from NC... but neither d I see the need to be bulldozed into a decision by a 3rd party

To clarify, I'd dont think we'd be bulldozed by a third party. Just get a new perspective on things and the AFC board can then draw its own conclusions on an informed basis.

I'd rather do it now, find out there were no problems or fix any problems that are detected and know that we gave 2007 our best crack. But I take your point, happening mid-season, it may have a disruptive effect depending on how the process was managed.

You can add Rutten and Goodwin to the can't do much about it injury list as they are corkies that they had which relate specifically to knocks received in the game. The club is then managing their injuries so that they can actually play games when we need them. I also think that Torney and Edwards also have 'general' soreness that relate to game day issues that they club is managing. Bode is another one that got knocks in the western bulldogs game that just didn't repair themselves quick enough. Would we rather Bode not make the decision to slide into Aker to go after the ball just in case he might hurt himself? We would end up with a team full of Jericho's and I know most supporters would really not be happy with that.

Porps and Burton both wrenched their knees during a game. Again it's a case of trying to manage those injuries but also put a team on the park. It is a fine balance and until we have all the facts we are just guessing about the injury management.

Players these days are trusted with the final decision about wether they are able to play or not, as really the medical staff can only take a guess and the best person to know about their own body is themselves. So how much can we put on the club for trusting professional athletes for making a decision that affects their livelihood?

At the Brisbane game breakfast last year Roo stated that no player that takes the field in any AFL game is ever 100% injury free. They may tell the media that they are but the nature of the game means that they have little knocks from previous games etc.

Stephen Schwerdt, earlier in the year on 5aa, reported about our injury management. He said that the club does regular in house assessment of injury management. I would be wary of a third party report just in the wake of recent disclosures from organisations that have confidentiality agreements as a major part of any one employed there.

John Hinge - Sore hamstring according to Craigy just then.

McGregor, Bode and Porplyzia chances for next week. Reilly half a chance.
I thought he pretty much said Bode wouldn't play? His knee injury is obviously a lot more severe than they’ve let on.

So Hinge did his hamstring, very doubtful for next week. Super. :thumbsu:

Could be right. The 5AA microphone at the presser wasn't coming through too well as usual.
