I was at high school during a short stint in Perth when Wirra was brought into the Eagles squad. I remember a kid only a year older then me playing his first game of AFL. A no-look handball to a team-mate behind him while falling backwards sticks in memory.

After returning to the Eastern states and finding that rugby is no longer of any interest, I've found myself a fan of the swans. Due to our recent rivalry, the Eagles are the team I love to hate, but I've always maintained a respect for Wirrpanda.

A great player, and a great person who I'm sure is a role model to many.

Best of luck to him in the future. :thumbsu:

Wow what a champion to give it all up to allow the younger boys to get a gig :thumbsu:

Wirra you are a champion at the West Coast Football Club and I hope retirement treats you very well mate , congrats on a great career champ.:thumbsu:

Re: Wirra's Future to be decided On Tuesday.

Yeah, great career.

The only AFL player I know of who got a shout out in a rap song. :thumbsu:

I still remember when he hoarsely led us through the Eagles song after the 06 flag you could tell that the win meant alot to him, he was on fire during the celebrations.

A real success story from our club, from a young, shy and injury prone kid with a ponytail who blossomed and became a talented and electrifying player and one of our finest ambassadors.

Get the feeling he won't be the last Wirra in gold and blue.

Congratz wirra you are a legend, one thing about wirra he is loyal a 16 year old kid to come over to WA and not move back over east was fantastic and he get the reward when we won the prem well done mate.

one of my favorite pictures:

I'm gutted, it's not every day one of your all-time favourite players retires when you thought he had at least one more year left in him :( At least with Adam "Mr September" Hunter I had a year to adjust to the inevitable bad news :(

Fletcher, Wirrpanda and Hunter. Three West Coast legends.

Legend.

Never seen better skills below knee level.

Constantly he was under huge pressure on the last line of defence. But did Wirra panic? No, he just ran full pace, picked the ball up one handed before delivering a lace out 60 metre, rebound 50 pass. Add to this the excellent stints up forward kicking great goals and you have a magician.

I'm very sad we will never see his silky skills again. One of my all time favourites.

Best of luck being a new father Wirra!

PS Please don't take this the wrong way - but i used to call Wirra 'the original brown magic' out of admiration and respect. Alot of indigenous players wouldn't be showcasing their skills in the afl if it wasn't for Wirra's work on and off the field.

When this first came out on Monday I was sad, disappointed but not totally surprised. Now that its sunk in I'm just flat out depressed... especially after reading all the stuff folk are posting. That photo of him with the cup is sensational... I've never seen it before.

He was on Before The Game a couple of weeks ago, absolute classic

They asked him about Naita and he said "I'm just annoyed that he's blacker then me. I'll be the first black fellow to go to a tanning salon"

Do you remember which episode it might've been?

now i have to decide on a new fav player:( dont think it will be that hard tho, with all our young talent.:)

Just wanted to say that this guy was one of the players I admired most, loved to watch him play.. has been brilliant for you guys, and it'll be sad to see him go.

I still don't know why he did it for the 'kids' to develop. I don't see any player on the list beside Lecras that would be better in a small forward role and i can't stand seeing HB flankers thrown into the forward line to see what they can do, when you know they can't do much.

Only problem i have with Worsfold and co is they have don't seem to like creative/skilled players up forward.

Honestly its insane when they throw Cockie, Selwoods, Ebert, even Masten up forward. Wirra has been far more damaging up forward then those guys and its disappointing that the coaches will continue to give them playing time just because we have 10 hbf's and defensive midfielders who can't fit into 4 spots.

Congrats wirra on a fantastic career and keep up the great work with your foundation. Much foresight in a young man.

Well Done to Wirra!! Great career!! I loved Wirra for his silky skills and always loved him playing loose man in defense because he was unstoppable.

He was Before the Game this year and Id have to say hes the funniest Eagles player that Ive heard. Absolutely hilarious. IF anyone has the footage please link it to me :)

He also hinted at politics...which I imagine hed be great, as he does a lot for his Indigenous community.

Thanks Wirra

Thanks for the memories and those classy moments Wirra. All to often you eased my nerves when there was a loose ball spinning on its end in the back half, to then gather and deliver a pin point pass out of the danger zone.

Top bloke also.:thumbsu:
