All 4 were taken out under full sedation when I was 18. Looked like a chipmunk for 4-5 days and lived off yogos for a week. Gums were hell tender for about 3 weeks.

Has anyone ever had a dentist's injection between your top lip and the top front teeth?

My god it was agony, it felt like the needle was coming out through my eyes.

Got one of them, definitely not the most pleasant of things aye?

Got my wisdom's out today, all 4 were needed to be broken down first. Not a decent tooth in the 4. 2 fully under the gum and sideways, 1 half out another out wierdly.

The wait int he hospital sucks, only because I was hungry and thirsty though. Staff were good.

I strangely like the feeling of the knock out, it felt like I was breathing out Sambucca, fond memories perhaps.

Woke up, all good...gave me an icy pole which was covered in blood after the first suck.... no problems with the anesthetic which is sweet, but I'm gonna get bored of soup very bloody quick.

Anyone got any tips of foods/drinks that are better than soup?

Hey guys, just wondering, mine have come through and seem ok, but I am due to go over seas in the next month or so, should i get the dentist to check them out before i go?

Is it common for them to come through and just slot in beautifully? that is what i am going for.

Chances are, if you go to the dentist... they'll take a look, maybe do an x-ray. But if they've come out straight, you're one of the lucky ones! Should be no problem in terms of your trip. Wisdom teeth are pretty slow growing creatures.... but if they are compacted (ie. not straight), they can cause damage to adjacent teeth and that's when it's best to get them out.

I am slightly overdue for a checkup at the dentist (will do it next time I am in my home town) and she has never suggested I had a problem with my wisdom teeth in the past (I am 24).

However recently, my bottom right one (which has been partly showing for a while, the rest are not through) is causing a little bit of pain on the gum surface and I am always getting food stuck in it. It doesn't really seem to be hurting or moving the other teeth at all, and I think it is straight.

Is this bad boy in line to come out?

Get them checked!!!!!!!

Just from my experience, my top WT were growing out normally, but the bottom two were at 45 degree angles. I just went to the dentist for a "regular" check up before going OS- a week before I was due to fly out- and my dentist said I had to have them removed urgently.

I would have a regular check up anyway- if you have any fillings, whatever you can get them done and hopefully you wont have any problems while you're overseas. (unless you have insurance and it covers dental??)

Thanks mate, I hope I am spared by what is on all accounts, an awful experience.

I have just never heard stories of people whose wisdom teeth have just come through all hunky dory, you only hear the horror stories.

I wonder if we will ever evolve out of them? they are a fair design fault.

Yeah I am due a check up, but I have never had to have any fillings or anything. I am only really worried about the Wisdom Teeth, everything else seems in pretty good check, and they should be given the billions of dollars the parents spent on orthodontics back in the day.:thumbsu:

Oh, thats ok then.

And make sure you leave enough time between the check up and your day to fly out. I had only 7 days!!! I had to cancel my going away party (:(), basically had to rest and recover from the procedure- which they usually recommend you have about 2 weeks to recover from.

The actual op tho was fine. I had hardly any swelling or bruising, or even blood. Was just sore and sorry for myself those few days after it.

Good luck with it. Hope you dont have to get them out. :thumbsu:

I'm one of the lucky ones. Three of mine have come through straight with the fourth half out now but the dentist believes I'll be sweet. The only problems I have is the gums can hurt a bit for a day or two, but then it's gone. I put off going to the dentist for years because of how messed up my brother got from the procedure and then I got the good news.

I got mine out a few years ago and I'm pretty sure I dodged the pain bullet pretty well. The dentist I had got them out no worries and after the anaesthetic wore off I had a slightly interrupted sleep that night and was right as rain the next morning.

Got lucky I guess.

I'm in this boat at the moment. It's been three days, and apart from a bit of discomfort about the first night, it's been pretty good. Worst things of it are: eating, as mentioned, but also, as I think I might've copped swelling a little more on the extreme side of the scale (milney-like), I've been unable to brush my teeth since I had it done. Worst feeling ever!

I don't have to do anything like that, but that would definitely suck. Although I'm assuming the reason I have stitches is so I don't have holes?

Get the bottom 2 out?

I had stiches as well but they said after a week, fill the syringe with water and blast the food out of the holes where your teeth were. The holes take about a month to go.

Yeah mate, all four. They told me my stitches will fall out after three weeks. I assume that's enough time for the wounds to at least partially heal.
