Treasure the moment. Word is that this will be the last ever in Hawaii. Massive shame
I can still remember Dustin Johnson’s tee shot on a long par 4 put it to about a metre. I think the hole was over 450 yards long, close to the best tee shot I’ve seen.
Edit it was a 433 yard hole put it to six inches I just looked it up. Effin memory is going 🤣

But he makes eagle with his second ball to walk off with a par. Contrast that with a left OOB I hit last weekend followed by a double to produce a lovely 8.
I do note that this weekend I again tugged it left on the same hole - up against the boundary fence. Unplayable back to the tee, 3w, 8i, then holed a putt to make bogey. Uncharacteristic resilience

NLU have a deep dive pod on the subject of water, etc. it’s more likely that Rolapp’s scarcity vision is what will kill of the Hawaii swing

Talk is the Tour wants to compress the schedule and start the season after the Super Bowl

I listened to the NLU discussion, which led me to think that it’s only Kapalua that’s got the water issue.
They delay the start of the season and it creates a beautiful clean slot for the Aussie Open. Was also thinking if Sony stays then the field is halfway to Australia already.

Are you saying move the 2027/2028 Aus Open to the first week of January 2028 (which is when the Kapalua event would have been)?

If the season doesn’t start until after the Super Bowl, there would be a range of openings- but realistically, a change to our Open would be more dependent on fitting in with the DP Tour Middle East/Africa swing.

What's to be gained by changing from the current date?

Are you asking the question seriously? The gain is the prospect - real or not - of attracting more players. Clashing with Thanksgiving at season’s end isn’t great for US players. Maybe an early season slot when the PGAT isn’t going might bring in a few more stars.

As stated above, slotting in with DP - not up against the SA Open - seems a better idea to me.

The only way of getting US stars (or any stars) down here is to either play for an exorbitant purse (not $2M) or pay them each a motza in appearance money (a la Rory).

The Sun City event up against this year's Aus Open played for $9M and the field was horrendous.

It does need more cash, no doubt. Throw in invite to the Masters, Open etc and hold it not in competition with a tour event.
Build it and they will come, then sponsors come, then more cash etc
Bribing one superstar is only a short term fix. Link it with LIV Adelaide. Current date is garbage and courses in much better shape this side of Christmas.

I can’t see LIv being around - in its current format- for more than a few years.

I actually think they have the date and formula pretty well set now. Play it at the end of the year leading up to Christmas when a lot of the Aussies are headed back home anyway. Then pay a squillion for a single superstar to add the buzz and drag the theatregoers through the gates.

The alternative is to somehow play it for $7-8 million and I'm not sure that's going to get you much more in terms of star power anyway.

Scheffler is just so ****ing boring.
He gets a tough run because of his deadpan personality. His golf seems boring just because he is so good and plays the percentages to win by miles. I reckon if we went back and watched many of Tiger’s regulation PGAT wins, they were invariably pretty “boring” because the dominant ones get out to a lead and can then hold it by playing the percentages.
