He gets a tough run because of his deadpan personality. His golf seems boring just because he is so good and plays the percentages to win by miles. I reckon if we went back and watched many of Tiger’s regulation PGAT wins, they were invariably pretty “boring” because the dominant ones get out to a lead and can then hold it by playing the percentages.
His golf is phenomenal.

His personality is that of a mop.

Bloke is a freak of a player. Comes in cold first tournament of the year and shoots 20 odd under like he's shelling peas. 20 PGA tour wins already is an amazing feat only Tiger has matched before he's 30s and he's practically done it in a 4 year window.

And Jack Nicklaus.

Only those three.

Tiger ayed outrageous golf too though. Made difficult shots look pedestrian. Scheffler just hits pure iron and approach shots at a monotonous consistency he makes the others at times look amateur. It's this part of his game which is planets ahead of everyone. As a putter he's good but he gives himself so many looks because of where his shots to the Greens land.

Tiger's highlights reel is obviously something else. But the lion's share of his wins - like all the great golfers - came with what might be described as boring golf. After his initial burst - when tournaments started trying to Tiger-proof their courses - Tiger's wins came by doing things like being able to take 3 woods and 2 irons off tees(when everyone else was using driver) as well as making approaches aimed 20 ft from pins but shaping towards them.

Mark Broadie - inventor of Strokes Gained - put together quite a big piece on Tiger's dominance. It's very much like what Scheffler is doing now.

To put Scheffler's current dominance into context, to get to Tiger's total number of weeks at World #1, Scottie will need to stay there until October 2035!

Why couldn't he stay out at LIV. No one missed Reed at all.
I did. Reed is awesome to watch. Plays a very different game to many others. He will be a great one to get back.

The only ones remaining that would be good to get back are Bryson Rahm Hatton and maybe Niemann. Unless Smith turns things around he is not required.

LIV are surely banging down the doors of the Euro Tour

Reed stating that he “misses the grind” is quite a damning statement on LIV. Not surprising either.

Not a Reed fan by any stretch but would welcome a villain returning. Good drama.

He cheats. Simple as that for me.
Red flag. Black mark. However you want to put it.

Maybe. What about all of today’s pros who mash the crap out of their lies in the rough? I’ve even heard a story of IBF getting caught spinning a ball when taking a drop out of casual water in a bunker.

the guy's a flog no doubt and he cheated, but surely some water has gone under the bridge since then. people on the internet act like they've never done anything wrong in their lives.
It's probably worthy of a separate thread but I could count on one or two hands the number of members or people I play with that don't cheat

Once a cheat always a cheat . In saying that he’s that I’m happy for him to go back to the pga tour and if I’m honest I would like a few more to go back instead of playing the Mickey Mouse tour . One thing if he knowingly cheats again then he should be banned for life.

A couple of ready examples for club golfers:
  • point of entry relief into a penalty area that would have required the ball to turn on a right angle.
  • taking free relief. This is a personal bugbear of mine. So many people think "staked tree, I can drop within two clublengths not nearer the hole". When the actual rule is find the nearest(not nicest) point of relief - there is no choice on this, it's a question of fact - then you can drop within one clublength of that point. Reckon you could count on one hand the time you have actually seen someone do that properly.

The Reed "cheating" is completely overblown. So many players have done exactly what he was accused of. They all love trying to improve their lies.

The allegations of stealing from college teammates is something else though...

Is it though he definitely moved that sand twice in that bunker and then the embedded ball where he got relief when the vision showed the ball bounces .
The college accusations are and were very bad, shit bloke who is very good at golf.

There's a difference between what I'd say is the different intensities of golf.

If you're playing professionally then adherance to the rules should be a given, so much so that you should know the rules back to front, and if in any doubt consult a rules official.

Comp golf is similar but on a smaller and less lucrative scale. And its a stigma that will follow you around for future comps.

But if you're having a hit of 9 holes and don't play anywhere near often enough to bother with a handicap, and where the score isn't really the main focus but is merely a chance at some exercise and getting some fresh air. Then that's different.

My dad was a pensioner when we played so if he had a ball nestled up against a tree did I care if he nudged it back a foot or two as to not break his club trying to hit the lie. No, he couldn't afford to be replacing or repairing golf clubs. Did I care enough to ask him to count it as a stroke. No. We were having fun and enjoying each other's company.
