It's a handy lineup on 3 under now. Big test for Potgieter, McNealy and Smalley to hold their nerve today (then do it again tomorrow).

Edit: Rahm into the equal lead now. Feels like this best performance at a major recently? Has had a few stinkers since joining LIV.

Why does it feel like Spieth winning the Grand Slam is further away for him than it was for McIlroy? He’s only 32 but gee he looks a way off it
The Beautiful Boy is just about my favourite player but he doesn't have the tools anymore. Just a mid-packer by nearly every measure.

Hasn't been a real factor since about 2017, maybe 18. Sadly, as some of the pundits label him(quite meanly), it is now true that he is "Just A Guy".

Would love to see him somehow come back. He is a rollercoaster ride!

Another -5 from Rose would see him right in the mix.
Got him at 60/1 b4 the tournament
Maybe - he’s still at 40/1. I’d love to see him get the win. Given there’s about 30 blokes who could win it with a 65, it’s still a lottery.

Smalley’s back 9 was extraordinary.

Will be interesting to see how they set up the course. CBS must be having kittens trying to work out how to keep on top of that many contenders.

Surprised the leader is only -6. The wind must've picked up in the afternoon because the bit I watched was a complete birdie fest.

The pin locations look a bit harder today, the problem for someone like Scheffler, although he's close to the lead, even if he hits a 64 there are like 20 guys ahead of him which increases the possibility one of them has an equally good round.

Oh boy, did the wind get up!

Scheffler’s big problem is that as much as he is the best player on the planet, this year his Strokes Gained Approach numbers have him midfield- number 42 to be precise. He has been #1 for years on this number - as well as being #1 overall. Which he is this still #1 overall year despite the drop in his approach numbers.

The whinging about pin placements reeks of entitlement.
Pro golfers in general are an entitled lot. Every US open they whine about how it's too hard. Last year it was so hard one of them smashed up the locker room.

You bet the PGA upped the ante after all the talk about how the players would steamroll the course and the winner would be at -20.

Smith has a chance here. 4 under with 13 holes to play.

Rose is also looking pretty good. McIlroy a huge threat. Still so many in contention.

Scheffler is almost out of the running. 2 under with 7 to go.

The Sky commentators completely disregarded Smalley's chances. They said he'd buckle under the pressure against the big names. They could be right but it felt harsh.

6 players a shot off the lead with around 12 holes for them to play. Smith has less holes to work with. He probably needs a couple more birdies soon.

Smalley is looking vulnerable...he drops a shot as Schmid gains one and goes into the outright lead!
