since we are not playing each other in the next WTC cycle.
Why? That is my point.. we shud be. Dont the cricket boards make the schedule then the ICC ratifies it. If so then CA is continuing to ignore playing the Black Caps. Where is next WTC cycle listed?

If anything why would teams want to schedule test series outside of the WTC? The cricket schedule is already packed and wouldn't boards want to keep their test players fresher for the WTC games? They'll do a white ball tour at least once until then.

This is the video that went into all the things that fell into place for the Kiwis to make the final.
Also talks about how the WTC concept and points system is actually one of the things that is helping make cricket more equal so that the Big 3 don't just continue to get all the advantages.

Far too much T20 nonsense is hamstringing the WTC imo. Sucks that we're at a point where six (mostly two match) Test series' in the space of two years is now considered to be jam-packed. No representation for Zim, Ire, Afg still a massive travesty.

Thanks for the list. Still no Ireland or Afghanistan? Bloody unfair on them. So that will be five years after given Test status that they will have been locked out of the WTC.
Only 6 series over the two years? That is underkill. Every team shud play each other both home and away. I know not possible as then they are unable to fit in as much meaningless white ball.

Are people actually having a whinge about Nicholls pointing out the spectator who was yelling out ‘drop it’?

Didn't quite pick that up. I thought he was pointing in celebration at NZ fans. If it was someone saying drop it then they can definitely be called out. It happens in the AFL when a player kicks a goal from the boundary.

I think the ICC will tweak the WTC as needed, it is the first one so everyone is learning. Still love the idea of a WTC.

I think it was poor form from Kohli to say he'd prefer a best of three. I don't have a problem with him saying it, but so soon after losing seems like sulking. Let NZ celebrate and maybe mention it a week of two later, not the next day after losing.

I'd prefer a best of three myself. But what happens if it ends 1-1, or 0-0?

I would love more test cricket against all countries it just seems like its always India and england ....I understand they are the money makers but I would be nice to see the Aussies play against other test nations
The next WTC cycle has us playing only six nations. No minnows Ireland or Afghans???, Zimbo or the Banglas and unhappily the Kiwis. Every nation will now be super keen to knock off the world champs and we have not been given the chance to. Bloody irritating. This is why CA and NZ board have to get together and arrange an out of WTC series. Easie peasy as they are only a three hour hop and a jump across the ditch. To get to everywhere else it is a 12/24 hour vigil.

The public gets what the public doesn't want :-(

A shared trophy I would imagine. Just like what would have happened had this match been drawn.

Of course, wasn't thinking. But I hate the idea of a shared trophy. But I don't have a solution...

Make it open then. Play until there is a clear winner. One match is a joke.. so Kohli got it correct.

That sounds better, the extra day forced a result this time. It's a WTC final so I don't mind if the rules are a bit different. I'm sure all teams wouldn't have a problem with it.

Kohli is correct, just didn't like the timing of his comments.

Agree. It's not the way any world championship should end, be it cricket or any other sport.

I like the idea of the higher ranked team taking home the trophy. The more things in place to favour the #1 ranked team at the time the better.

What about having semi-finals and a final in one location, that way you are expanding on just having a singular match, yet not straining the cricket calendar by having 3 test matches in series. Also, improves the chances of receiving the Indian windfall.

Have 1v3 and 2v4, if the host plays, they must play the tougher ranked opponent in the opposite half of the draw (eg. if host finishes 2nd, they play 3rd) (eg. if host finishes 4th they play 1st).

Kohli actually said the same thing before the final.. without specifically mention of 'best of three' then. He was reiterating or rather elaborating his point in his post match comment. Agree his timing was off.

Will be interesting to see if NZ can back up this victory and now status as number 1 on the Test stage. Definitely got a good bowling unit, batting wise Conway has definitely added some quality there, early days but a double hundred on debut v Anderson and Broad is a fantastic feat....SA will be spewing letting him go. Should be some great series coming up, COVID dependant, pity Aust and NZ aren't locking horns sooner on the Test arena....though hopefully Paine will be long gone by then.

Thinking alike. I suggested a play off for the runners up then the final. I like semis better. The next WTC finale needs to have a greater degree of importance placed on it than was the case for this one. Hopefully the ICC will learn from this.

Don't think RSA let Conway go. It was a decision on his part to leave the country.

Green also gets steepling bounce but the in swinger that Jamieson has mastered is a gun weapon for him. Green looks to be more a seamer.. is he able to master swing too. Only time will tell. Remember Green is only 22 Jamieson is 27 so far more first class experience. We have to not expect too much from the massively talented West Aussie too soon.

Greens played 27 FC matches and Jamieson 36 so not a huge amount in it

Yeah very true, I guess it's amazing to think Conway appears to have done fudge all in his first class career in SA for Gauteng, left SA when he was 26 and been scoring runs for fun ever since....late bloomer it seems.

Not that unusual for batsmen to peak when they're approaching 30 imo. Steve Smith comes to mind. I think experience counts for a lot more when you're a batsmen, or even a spin bowler for that matter. Temperament at the crease & shot selection aren't skills that come naturally. Young quickies on the other hand can burst out of the blocks early if they're a tearaway. Some of them get even better with time & conditioning (Ishant Sharma, for example), whereas on the other hand a good portion of quicks succumb to injuries & lose the pace they once had. Forcing them to rework their action (Dennis Lillee a prime example).

Another win for one of the nicest guys. Rizwan leads Multan from bottom of the table to take out their first PSL title! He is winning everything in the past year or so, good on him.

Smith peaked well before that. He was scoring tons for fun back in 2015 round time he became skipper. In fact his incredible temperament got us out of many holes to win us games . Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy (ICC Cricketer of the Year) in 2015; ICC Test Player of the Year in 2015 and 2017. I'd say that was his peak.. and he was still a relative pup. But his astounding 2019 Ashes at 30 shows he was far from a spent force. There have been some signs of his powers waning tho with failures in his past handful of Tests.

Hard to say with Smith, he showed signs even before the ban that his form was waning (though it might have been partly leadership pressure) but then he followed it up with possibly his best series ever in Ashes 2019.

Since then he hasn't been as good but we know he needs the rythem and consistent cricket to be at his best and Covid hasn't allowed that.

Covid/the ban may have robbed him from having a 60+ average at the end of his career if age begins to effect him like most other post 30+ but I hope there's at least a few more big series there for him.
