What's the criteria to determine worst captain?

Is it simply the team's on field performance?

Their personal performances as a player?

Their communication and relationships with players? (impossible for us to gauge?)

I don't think it's possible to answer this question as I don't think you can reliably measure this.

Ziebell, Shuey and Heppell maybe had one elite year between them. None have ever been a top 10 player at any point and their fans overrate them. If one of those guys were my leader they couldn’t motivate me. Someone like Hurn or Cunnington at least deserves respect & at Essendon I really couldn’t tell you

Probably Heppell as it is debatable whether he would be in the team if not for being captain. Would make things awkward.

Heppell has been a great clubman in dark times but his body is shot.
