What would you do if Richmond had to merge/fold? which team would you want us to merge with? discuss.

EDIT: By the way this is not a troll, just wondering what you would do in the two cases.

I also agree, I'd become a neutral and just watch for the fun of Footy.

Obviously low on topics at this time of the year.

I would rather relocate than merge. Gold Coast and $100 million plus heaps of priority picks to sweeten the deal and home game priviledges for away games in Melbourne would sway me.

It's a hypothetical, so to my mind harmless speculation.

If the Tigers relocated anywhere other than Sydney I would continue to support the club. I barracked for Glenelg and Richmond as a kid living on the Vic/SA border - learning to hate Port, Collingwood and Carlton with equal intensity, so SA doesn't bother me. WA is more problematic but Qld (I'd happily relocate myself to Mackay or Townsville), Tas or NT present me with no problems.

If the Tigers had to merge for whatever reason then Melbourne would be the least unpleasant option. The Melbourne brand is a good one, we would not give up our home (nor likely our colours), and my father barracks for the Demons. Not a perfect marriage by any stretch but better than the alternatives.

At present we don't really have to seriously consider any of this, but I don't think we can afford another 10 years like the last 10. As Fitzroy proved, you can only be rubbish for so long before you end up going to the bottom of the food chain.

Least we dont cheat! :thumbsu::)

We meet again Tigermuffin! I love these in-depth well thought debates :D.

Could you do me a favour. Could you name me one Richmond team in the last 20 years that would be the envy of another team, just one Richmond squad. I mean you have had enough draft picks to surely put together a decent squad in one year. I mean in the last twenty five years, surely you have won a premiership, surely you have played finals in half those years (sheer 50/50 odds wouldnt you think).

I mean, I can think back to a great 1995 Carlton team, I can think of a great Bomber team, I can think of a great WCE team etc etc. I'm thinking hard but I can't quite put together a Richmond team with enough decent players in the one year that would make me go, ooh, I wish I had some of their players. I beg you, please help :rolleyes:

Was that the great 1995 Carlton team that was later found to be over the Salary Cap, and then stripped of its Draft picks in future drafts as punishment. :thumbsu:

And from then on, the 1995 Premiership has always been "tainted"

Of course your 95 team would be decent, you were over the cap!

there you go. out of 16 replies only one decent one. it was a hypothetical. if we all dont start thinking shit, what would we do without richmond?, we are likely to all end up at a richmond board meeting, opposing a move to the gold coast or against a merger. we are living in a dream world where we think we will be here forever, exactly what fitzroy thought. Jack Dyer fought hard to save us from a merger in the mid-90's...some of our darkest days. dont forget any team can go down. this was just a hypothetical. id hate to see what would happen if we actually did merge or fold. remember, this is the team that put up their 1973/74 premiership cups as securities for unpaid debts.
think about it!
