No.

Sibasado is looking good. Silvangi is on the way back. Faulks was drafted for a reason.

Draft accordingly and we'll be fine.

Hopefully GWS will be as generous as the Gold Coast were this year and we can stitch them again.

Any chump (sic) can identify a weakness in the lack of a dominant ruckman.

So why do they deserve praise for identifying the obvious?

Ottens is a goal-kicking ruckman, and kudos to the Cats in spotting that.

How could anyone miss it? Kicked 153 goals at Richmond:rolleyes:

Roughly at the same average (almost a goal a game) that he's achieved at Geelong.

Great thread and good question.

But we have such a great record with development and drafting youngsters under Harves ansd Co., with the addition of results with mature age players/rookies [Barlow. Mzungu and hopefully Faulks] I wouldn t see the viability in getting a "few years left player" than a possible career player starting young. Pitt looks the goods so far and we really haven't seen the best of Chricton and others that have been recently drafted.
Keep in mind we are doing well without our supposed best squad on the field after 4 rounds, so on that basis I wouldn 't like to see us waste a first rounder at least this year. Great thread that should be revisited at the end of the season.
Nice to see the dark embarrassing days of recruiting/list management are behind us.

Well you seemed to miss the obvious, categorising Ottens as a "dominant" ruckman, which he isn't. They didn't identify that need, because they already had King, who in 2005 got nearly double the hit-outs of Ottens playing similar number of games. Who they didn't have, is Ben Graham. Ottens value is his versatility. And you only comment on his goal-kicking after I mention it, so = "any chump".

Regardless we are discussing whether you would ever trade your first rounder, and Ottens enters the debate because Cats handed 2 over for him. That is a gutsy move which paid them dividends. They did it at a time King was their captain, and he went on to play another 6 seasons. They did it at the time Blake came to them via F/S, so could have thought they were set for when King retires. They did it when Ottens was pretty damn ordinary at Richmond. And he had a pretty ordinary few seasons there, but Geelong stuck to their strategy. All of that is pretty gutsy stuff, and if it failed, which it nearly did, their future would have been significantly effected.

And any recruiters who get it right deserve kudos, whether it is the obvious thing to do or not.
