Trav Cloke has a Nike deal, Shane Crawford used to have a deal with XBlades, I believe Aker may have been with Reebok? And of course there was Carey who had the massive Nike deal in the 90s.

Onya Omega.

Mero, how many AFL footballers have boot contracts? I assume someone like Buddy or Gary Ablett would have a personal deal. But do most players simply buy their own boots?
Players haven't provided their own boots since the 1970s.
They don't even clean them, the club has a guy for that.
What used to happen, and I assume it's still the same, is they have one pair for games and another for training.
Next year, your game pair becomes your training pair and you get a new game pair.
This way the latest models of boots are always getting a showing.
Clubs have deals with manufacturers, usually their apparel manufacturer, but players can have their own deal independent of this. Simon Madden was one of the first to have his own deal in the mid 80s when he started wearing Blades and the club were sponsored by adidas. Back then they covered over the Blades logo with black texta.
There would be very few players who have a boot deal, because it would have to be a different manufactuer than the apparel supplier, and it would have to be someone photographed a lot. Ablett and Franklin might, but someone like Jobe Watson, his club captain and best player does not. So it would be the top 10 or so players max, I would have thought.

I posted a video on the RCT of the Collingwood equipment guy, there is a massive heap of shoes littered around a room. Easily a few grands worth.

Kouta used to have a deal with Adidas when Carlton were supplied by Nike... it caused a bit of friction back in 1998, allegedly Kouta was driven to tears over the dispute. Naturally this was the week before a Richmond game... that year it seemed like every second week, our opponent had some controversy in the week leading up to the game.

EDIT: Example - Melbourne sacked Neil Balme and replaced him with Greg Hutchison.

What if you have a personal choice?

Such as I have worn Asics for the last 3-4 years and I don't want to change, are you under contract to wear the boots?

It would depend on the contract you sign with the club.
If you don't have a clause saying you have your own boots contract, then you would wear what the club give you. If your manager knows there is a manufacturer with you in mind for a personal sponsorship deal, then he would make sure that was allowed for in your contract.

I mean more, your drafted, given Puma boots, dislike them to what you always wore pre-draft, and went out and bought boots from a shoe store, to suit you better, would you get into trouble?
Or would the club rather your in what is most comfortable for you?

Yeah, you get to try Puma boots until you find some you're comfortable with.
Draftees don't get to decide what boots they wear.

Sometime in the past couple of years the flood gates opened at West Coast and now players are wearing whatever brand boots they want. Lots of Adidas, Asics boots on the players, seems to be more of other brands than Puma.

Back in the day majority of the team wore Puma.

That would have to be something to do with Puma and their future intentions in regard to sponsorship.
I would say that the exception rather than the rule.

Seems really silly you can't wear the boot you prefer.
I would argue and argue until they let me wear asics.

And nicly coloured ones too, none of this generic white stuff, I want people to notice me ;)

And then they delist you because you have "attitiude problems..."

Do any of you folk have an image of Collingwoods original jumper design before they took on the vertical stripes?

"Their colours are black and white in diagonal stripes," The Argus reported of the new club. "Collingwood although beaten are to be congratulated on playing a fast and fair game, Carlton breaking the rules about twice as often as their opponents all through." - The Argus May 9, 1892

Does someone want to have a stab at a design?

And yet in 1910 they were wearing navy with a white monogram:

This monogram version is from the early 1920's. 1922 I think

Typical hahaha.

Anyway, must find ourway back on track.

Mero, for the Lions jumper today, does the AFL say who they can play against to avoid the special jumper clashing? Or must they provide a few heritage ones to trail first?

Yep, quite happy to take the pages someone else designs at post them to the site.
If you're waiting for me to do it, you'd best get some popcorn and settle back, that might take a while.

Have been playing with a new (well updated) design in Dreamweaver today (got a taste of it during an assignment recently).

Here is what I have done so far (click for full size):

Home page

Club by Club page (have cut it down from full length, but all clubs exist with the same design inbetween Collingwood and Sydney)

That's just absurd.

I don't think Fremantle have any of these deals. A few blokes in Adidas, a few in Asics... and Sandi wears Nike boots. In fact, the Sandilands thing is interesting: His boots were specially designed, so if the club had a contract with someone, wouldn't it be with Nike? But then why does a kid like Lachie Neale wear Asics?

(blurb about diagonal stripes)

Pretty sure Mero addressed this once before and was backed up by a few others - something about an unreliable report in the newspaper, different definition of "diagonal" at the time etc.

His boots are made for him, in the US, and imported back here.
Size 18 too haha.
But yeah, I would want to wear what I'm most comfortable in...

I am not sure how it works with a company like ISC, who don't make boots.
In the old days it was only manufacturers traditionally associated with footwear that were apparel sponsors, adidas, Reebok,Puma and Nike.
Then along came Piping Hot, Isc & KooGa. So what their deal is with clubs, I don't know.

I spoke to a Collingwood historian (Michael Roberts) who understood there was no record of anything other than Black & White vertical stripes. And the club has photos to back that up.
the report in The Argus was a once off, and is most likely to be from someone who doesn't know the difference between horizontal, vertical and diagonal.

Looks good.
Is this a style I would apply to the site?
Or do we have to re-do every html page?
Or are these other types of pages?

Typical hahaha.

As the Away team they had to provide a jumper that was not going to clash with their opponent.
So they were never going to produce anything Blue for example.
As for the night, they probably picked a game that they thought they'd be a chance to win, and where they could make all the booking arrangements for the venue.
